Which leads to those with the most effective, or colourful, social media campaign dominating instead?

Would we really be in a better place with Clarkson, David Handley and Clive steering the ship? :nailbiting:
Can you imagine. 🙄

Where is David Handley given agriculture is going through its greatest inflationary pressure that I can ever remember.

A bit like a West Country Farage, he’s still writing in his local paper, which is posted on Facebook on the FFA group. You still get shouted down and/or posts deleted if you criticise or disagree in any way.

Not really. If retailers want producers to meet extra criteria to sell as a ‘premium’ product then they can demand their suppliers meet that criteria, as they do already.
Retailers don't demand it. It has become the norm through threats and blackmail by the non farming union who own RT and feed off us.

Completely agree. If the retailers want special production methods, they should determine that themselves, administrate themselves and and pay for it themselves.

The dead tractor is meaningless at best.

In a year where Nitrogen fertilizer is £650/ton I reckon there may not be a huge quantity of milling wheat grown as it needs extra N to boost milling quality

now I don’t know the figures but I’d bet U.K. won’t be self sufficient in milling wheat next season

so that will be interesting

Most ‘premium’ products are produced to extra criteria, organised by the retailers/processors.
RT is just the base level used, who’s standards the processors could enforce themselves if they were bothered enough. It adds nothing.

just a little mention for Dairy . and I suppose sheep& beef farmers as well. Reading all the comments about RT on various forums, you would think RT only impacted on grain. Hello!! We go through the wringer as well and not to be a member is not an option for us.
I'm the same in that my only interest is beef and lamb but we have to go for the weakest point first. Once the dam is breached then hopefully the whole thing will collapse.

All organisations become top heavy and get captured by the establishment and forget their basic membership.
A new union would be good for a period
Exactly but only for a period. I’m no fan of the NFU and I’m not going to pretend that Clive’s revolutionary overtones don’t make me salivate… but it might be a case of being careful what you wish for. All organisations wielding power end up attracting the same types of people who are currently leading the NFU and RT. How do you stop that from happening? Can you?

I do not agree with much of what you normally say but you are bang on here. I have seen it first hand and it makes no difference what the type or politics of the organisation are. And sadly I think we are in a time when 'good men' or 'good character' are non existent. The best I have come across are always doubtful of themselves and concerned by their own biases, the officials, politicians etc of toady are convinced of their own views. Oh dear.
