New Farming Investment Fund launched today

Morning. Thankyou for being in here to answer questions. Would you be able to advise if the grass harrow (which to me looks the same as the comb weeders) would be eligible on this grant.
Grass harrow - https://www.brownsagricultural.co.uk/products/grassmaster

Comb weeder - https://products.opico.co.uk/opico-products/mechanical-weeding/comb-harrow/

The only difference seems to be in the name.

Thanks.
Hi - if the item you want meets the spec given in Annex 3 of the handbook then it should be eligible. If you're still not sure having done that, email [email protected] and they'll be able to advise.

Why should there be? @delilah ‘s post had nothing to do with this grant scheme.

Tangentially it did. Reading the posts on this thread, farmers could easily spend all of Defra's budget for supporting UK ag on new bits of kit. To what end ?
OK, spend some of the money on kit, but I would wager that the greater benefit both for farmers and for the environment would be had through stimulating demand for our primary products via investment in processing capacity focused on shortening the food chain.

Why give money to processors who only pass back what they can get away with?
How will this help farmers

I don't disagree. However, this thread is about a simple scheme, that is already designed and operational, to pay grants towards relatively small bits of capital equipment that 'may' make farmers more efficient.

Perhaps I didn't word it very well. To give a specific, urgent example. On the abattoir thread we have been told by an abattoir operator that relief on waste and inspection charges for low throughput abattoirs would stimulate the (re)opening of small operations. Support one small abattoir and you support dozens of farmers.

Agree with you on that, but like most grant schemes the the small businesses will probably miss out on funding

Point being nothing in this scheme to reduce farmers carbonfoot prints with renewables and technology to reduce reliance on fossil fuels as promoted in recent cop26 pledges?
This grant scheme to me seems simply a sop to the larger mainly arable estates who were quite likely to upgrade their machinery etc regardless, most of the smaller things that would be suitable for traditional farms do absolutely nothing to make their farms more profitable so in very many cases they will simply end up further in debt at the very time when farm payments are being slashed.
Quoting improving efficiency does nothing to make the average farm more profitable & will not replace what is being lost!
To say there is a upper limit of a £500,000 grant for a reservoir being built to me clearly points just where these grants are mainly aimed at!

Hi Janet, reading the details using finance on machines is not allowed. How is someone expected to pay up £60,000 up front for a 6m direct drill without finance or £25k grant money coming in before purchase?!
Depends on whether or not Overdraft Funding is considered to be finance - Otherwise none of this funding would be available to other than those who really do not need it ....

Also in wales machine couldn’t be sold until five years old
Make sure it’s fit for purpose for what you want

Finance you don't own the equipment until the last payment is made.

Overdraft is usually secured against property with smaller risk upon deadstock.

Question raised earlier was can you get funding in place to tick all the boxes for this round.
Personally given the returns I am getting and they way costs are rising at the moment purse strings are tightly closed!

Just casting my eye over the eligible items and the cynic in me thinks that some of the livestock items are a little light on funding whilst the horticultural ones are more generous.
