In 2019, we bought a Bateman portable (rotary) catching pen & race for about £3.5k, which we've set up in our yard, connected to our existing crush (£1k?), with a couple of handling gates, (with plenty of string). Seems to do the job for way less than the minimum required spend to get the grant (£7.5k)
but the minimum spend has been brought down to 2k this time

Is it £2k minimum spend or £2k minimum grant?
Big difference in my budget.
Grant sorry.

but yes it could be 2k min spend ,would be better for smaller outfits, to gain some help instead of being discriminated against. actually come to think of it, thats what it is , discrimination blatant discrimnation (y)
admin costs are a poor reason , infact that could be take all the admin costs off the top claimers.

instead i bet theres a lot Coal going to Newcastle ....:rolleyes:

i prefer ploughing anyway for my farm business , gives better results and its way cheaper on chemicals.

fortunately i want what ive got .happy days.

So then just to clarify @Bury the Trash as i have now got totally confused with the above posts ref spending amounts :

Do you have to either :

Spend a min of 2k and get some of the 2k back via the grant??

Min grant you can claim is 2k so you have to spend 4/6k min in total to get the 2k grant??

yes to clarifry :sneaky: its the :X3: bottom one

It needs to minimum of 2k of grant money.
That is a thing or things that will earn that amount for your claim to qualify.

edit taken from the guidance:
for the FETF
"The grants are for a minimum of £2,000 and a maximum of £25,000 for Items listed in Annex 3. The cost listed for each Item is the actual grant amount we will pay. So regardless of how much you pay you will receive the grant amount listed for that Item, whether it is less or more than you paid."

It is really, not got 10k or more as suggested above to spend but could make use of a couple things.
truth be known though no farmer is getting anything much as the gear will just be more expensive to start with than it would if there was no grant.

Thanks for the above info.

The scheme is a complete and utter waste of time then for small farms that only want a couple of items like for example Eid weighing equipment!

I see today that a new grant has come out for water, 500k top spend!

Morning. Thankyou for being in here to answer questions. Would you be able to advise if the grass harrow (which to me looks the same as the comb weeders) would be eligible on this grant.
Grass harrow - https://www.brownsagricultural.co.uk/products/grassmaster

Comb weeder - https://products.opico.co.uk/opico-products/mechanical-weeding/comb-harrow/

The only difference seems to be in the name.

Thanks.
Hi, sorry to have been slow - if the item meets the spec in Annex A then it should be eligible - if you wanted to double-check, please contact RPA directly [email protected]

Janet, If we wanted to make a claim for FETF51 Yield Monitoring, would something like the FarmTRX system be eligible if we bought a cheap tablet to be the 'in cab display', as they system doesn't have its own display, it uses a mobile app to display the data?
Morning - please can I suggest you ask the RPA contact centre on this? [email protected]? They're much better placed than me to advise on technical specifications and eligibility. Thanks

The grant states that 'You must not apply for a grant for any Items that you have already received public funding for.'
Does this relate to the specific item or category of the item?
e.g. a horsch direct drill bought under a previous scheme (leader/cpsg) you would be unable to purchase a new john deere direct drill under this new fetf grant?

@Janet Hughes Defra
The rule relates to a specific item - if you bought an item under the previous scheme, that wouldn't stop you buying another item under the new scheme. If you want to double-check, please email the RPA directly [email protected]

Just had this from a sypplier, whcih I am sure is not true?

XXXX This morning I leant that the grant application is now open. I'm still learning about it, but it seems that this scheme is slightly different, in that you need to show that you have an order in place and deposit paid before applying XXXX
@Janet Hughes Defra
This is not a requirement, we are allowing people to put down a refundable deposit this time (at their own risk). If you have any doubts on this or want to double-check, please contact RPA directly [email protected]

@Janet Hughes Defra
It is a damning indictment of the lack of transparency of the SFI pilot and DEFRA attitudes to farmers that you have not provided any answers to the first of my questions regarding the contract so I will try again
Where is the equality in dispute resolution between the two parties to the contract?
If I disagree with the views of one of your inspectors who has the final say?
Is there any mechanism for arbitration and who bears the cost?

I have offered to take part but not under the terms of the contract on offer. I have offered to share my knowledge and experience of running an all grass farm with cattle outwintered whenever possible. I dont use artificial fertilisers or buy compound feeds. A low input fodder based system where the manure falls where the cow decides.
I set out my concerns about the contract and my offer in an email to the RPA on 26th October. 2021, to date I have only received an automated acknowledgement.
Will there be follow up enquiries to those of the 938 farmers who successfully applied to be part of the pilot who like me refused to sign the contract in its present form?
Yes there is an appeals process.

We think the terms and conditions are fair and balanced and yes there is an appeals process. But this is a pilot, I've heard your feedback that you don't think that's true - we're reviewing the terms and conditions for future years and for the early rollout of the scheme next year on the basis of all the feedback we've received, and we'll test what we come up with with farmers to make sure the scheme is workable.

Yes we'll follow up with everyone who expressed an interest and applied - I'd be happy to chase up your email if you'd like to message me with your details.

I spoke to my local machinery dealer today about this as I’m wanting to get a fine tined grass harrow for veg weeding. Standard tines on an Einbock grass harrow are 8mm, weeding tines are 6.5-7mm
When I mentioned the grant he looked at the spec and showed me this which seems to be what the grant is for.
Never seen one of these before. Sadly the tined harrow I want won’t fit the bill.

I'd encourage you to check this with RPA directly if you've not already done so - [email protected]
