Had this discussion the other day. Had some ewes to dip drench for fluke and worm and bolus. There was a burst water pipe so to save time thought we would go down the Cydectin and crovect route. Changed the supaverm to flukiver but that still added more tasks and stress. After a chat with the supplier we decided in our wisdom that we would just do the more important tasks and split the job up due to stress on the sheep and possibly us too. So they ended up with a fluke drench and a Cydectin la. Had the bolus a few days after they will get the crovect next lap through the pens.
Hill sheep and too many tasks in a day don’t go well together at times. I heard a neighbour tell me he dipped dosed and Heptavaced some Swale gimmer hoggs and sent them onto keep all at once and had a similar experience to you
@Electricfencer the most I’ve done is Zolvix, Bolus, Tribex (fluke), footvax and dectomax in 1 hit to some hill ewes as they arrived. Didn’t lose any, spoke to all the manufacturers before doing it and they all said they’d never done that many as a trial before but if any didn’t die within a few days out of 203 then could I phone them back and let them know. All made it passed a few months 👍🏻💪🏼

That’s what’s stalling me on filling the sheds!! I keep doing the sums and if the beef price sits still I’ll struggle too break even, if it drops they will blow money for Britain!
I wouldnt want to bet on it but everything points to higher sheep, beef, corn and milk prices . Dairy cow trade has lifted with arla upping milk 3p and talk of a 40p milk price by the end of feb so less cows will be culled

I hope you are right! But as you say, I don’t want too bet heavily on it. Once 40 bulls are weaned and on ad lib there’s not many options that are any use if the job turns south

Heard ABP were short of cattle this morning and firms are still short staffed and not killing as many as they would like. Talk of store cattle shortages come spring with people who dont usually buy smaller cattle getting stuck in now so they have something to turnout next hear🤷‍♂️
With all the dispersals there have been this year the supply of stores is bound to tighten . I would think those that are purchasing younger cattle are being quite savvy. A lot of folk selling there barley and saying we’ll buy them in the spring.

Several commentators I've spoken to think we are at the start of a soft commodity super cycle, similar to early 2000s, with 1 forecasting high beef and lamb prices well into 2025.

Mind this is worth exactly what you've paid for it...
