Who's had an argument with a sawdust dispenser @Headless chicken Any details?
Stupid mistake, what happens when your tired I guess.
Turned it off but didn’t wait long enough before clearing the blockage for the blower to wind down or as I cleared it, it moved. Will know more today how much mess I’ve made but by all accounts got off very lightly. Probably the most painful f**k up to date.

no got a few people floating about just a sh!t time of year though. Need someone full time on the cows really so I can do the other bits like feet etc. On my own in the mornings, calf girl comes in at 5:30 and due to Tb we’ve got loads of them so she’s shattered so try to make sure she’s doing as little as poss. Waiting to finish the new house to put an add out on someone full time.

Get a foot trimmer in will take the pressure off, contract out as much as possible easiest way to get staff quickly. Clear your calves better to take the hit than struggle to rear them

Thought it looked like your advert on Facebook for a contract milker. Much luck?

Foot trimmer is booked hopefully. Sadly think your right on calves. Dairy bulls is my only reservation as they’ll be a one way ticket for them.

@Fergieman think we may have found someone but waiting to see how we look today as to likely how much time I need off. If it’s worse than expected we’ll have to muddle along and get an add put out fir a full timer

It's a one way ticket anyway. Just a shorter ride.

We only hear good reviews on tech now, have they refined it that much?
@Grassman247 @Cows 'n grass have seg gates they where not happy with. What's changed?
I think the biggest improvement is getting rumination. Rumination needs to fall as well as activity up for a good heat alert.

Seg gate. Ours was the second atl one ever installed over 20years ago. We have always got on well with it.
Huge help is having auto I'd in parlour which immediately shows missing tags.
Our cows go through it very gently.
If I wanted to show you it working and we stood by the side the cows would speed up enough for it to start missing. It doesn't have Texas gates to control cow flow

When drafting dry cows we actually stand in front controlling them through but it's still hugely easier than looking for them.

1. I got mine to 95% and for autumn calving that would be fine, if you're serving 20 a day there would be a couple a week that you had to find in the yard but with spring calving they're long gone before you notice.

2. Holsteins plod, Jerseys run.
