New Zealand lamb here by the boatload is what im hearing this morning.
It kind of fits in with what one or 2 have been saying on here....that these meatfirms aren't going to be caught out 2 years running paying high prices for hoggs.
How can it be cheaper thought, lambs have been making £90 for what looked like small 25-30kg stores. How can they finish them, kill them and put them on a ship and be cheaper than ours?

what is the cost of the lamb on the boats. Lamb is expensive down under Plus shipping. Hopefully put a high base but probably take the froth off the market.

I wonder where they think theyre gonna get meat from when theyve forced all the british farmers out of business?
They cant suddenly send youngsters to college, provide grants to increase production again, this is a skilled business with the knowledge passed down from generation to generation, there will be nobody left who knows how to farm.

I think you overestimate the scale of the supermarket lamb contracts. Tesco are by far the biggest retailer and they only have 200 producers contracted. Many of those haven’t been supplying them this year either, and are on suspension. They certainly aren’t in control.

Google says it's 12,000mls by boat from NZ.
It also says a container ship burns 60,000 gals of fuel a day and it will take 40 days to get here. So that's 2,400,000gals, which, I'm guessing is a sh!t load of CO2.

Anybody want to sell Tesco some carbon offsets to cancel it out?🤔
I don't think so. Total barstewards🤬

They move a few tonnes at a time though.;) The carbon footprint of moving stuff around the globe by ship is supposed to be very small indeed, per kg shipped.

Flying it in would be different obviously, and has been done on occasion.
