New defender

Feel fortunate to have had this delivered in September with all the right spec fitted having ordered it in early June with some discount. I ought to cash it in really but it’s one hell of a truck, there’s not much else I’d rather have.

Best non-commercial value in the LR line currently seems to be the newly announced Range Rover. They start with a nice specification including power-close doors and four wheel steering for under £100k and about £110k should buy a very nicely loaded spec indeed. Some may think that such a price is bonkers, yet I ask them to look at the competition where, for instance, the Aston Martin DBX and Bentley Bentayga both have an entry level price around £160k.

Don’t get me wrong, this is big money and way out of my league and reach until my lottery ticket comes in, but in its class the new Range Rover stands out for its value. It is up competing with aforementioned rivals while the true successor to the Mk1, 2 and 3 Range Rovers is today’s Discovery5 and Defender.

Toyota Land Cruiser? Probably be cheaper as well.

There is no use trying to reason with your LR perverts. I know.
Our next purchase of farm truck will most likely be a land cruiser to replace my sons hilux , they are a really good vehicle but not what I would choose myself . I’m not sure what I will have to replace my disco 4 when it dies .

Son and heir is out in Italy at the moment testing brakes on Defender V8 and also a hybrid. Taking the V8 to 140mph and then braking, he really rates the Defender as a JLR product.

I just don't understand why you guys are all so keen for the Green oval when you just know they will be a fudging disaster and poorly engineered?

Pretty much sums it up, the defender is much nicer if you just want a posh car. From a business/commercial perspective it's a ridiculous proposition Vs a double cab or a cruiser
As a working farm truck either of these would be 10 years too new imo. I don’t know how people can wreck such new motors. Obviously some people try keep them straight but things happen

Decent power level, better gearbox, better towing capacity, better spec level, uk based company (kind of) the list goes on🤣
LC has perfectly adequate power for a work truck, has a ladder chassis (unlike the LR), a much better built and more reliable gearbox, engine, suspension etc, much cheaper to repair/maintain, more reliable and longer lasting, TATA/JLR is no more british than toyota nowadays. They are both foreign owned and both build a similar number of cars in the UK
