Earlier I seem to remember details of a link for hypothetical the “exit scheme forecast statement” - Seems to have gone walkabout
It's not quite the same thing but there was a bit of a scandal a few years back when English councils were found to have been giving rough sleepers or homeless people one way tickets out of town. Can someone on welfare get 5 years of payment up front?
Yes, it does rather feel like a cull. It's not quite the same thing but there was a bit of a scandal a few years back when English councils were found to have been giving rough sleepers or homeless people one way tickets out of town.
This scheme does feel a little similar in terms of abdication of responsibility.
It’s not compulsory at all . No one has to leaveYes, it does rather feel like a cull.
I think I would take £100k over a one way bus fair to BrightonIt's not quite the same thing but there was a bit of a scandal a few years back when English councils were found to have been giving rough sleepers or homeless people one way tickets out of town.

Average English farm size is still under 100ha? English payment per hectare is roughly 230?I think I would take £100k over a one way bus fair to Brighton
Don't think my £32000 would last very long ,certainly won't pay for the yacht
It’s cos it takes so many attempts at getting it right we don’t want to retire until we are finished ! Got it right ! And we never doFour out of five farmers aim to keep farming until the day they die, a survey has revealed.
The survey, carried out by the University of Exeter and backed by NFU Mutual, canvassed almost 700 farmers across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Agree I thought the same, but we are in an annoying world where people post comments and opinions without reading the full details of the story first. Very impressed that janet is on here replying with the facts.Just an observation; on farming today this morning this was talked about, was no mention of it being no more than the BPS up front, all the general public heard was 'up to £100k to quit farming'. For that reason alone - the absolutely dire impression it gives of UK ag to the other 99% of the population - this is a crackpot scheme.
If I had 200 years I would not be finshedIt’s cos it takes so many attempts at getting it right we don’t want to retire until we are finished ! Got it right ! And we never do
Guess if farming is your life it will be an enjoyable long happy life .?If I had 200 years I would not be finshed
On my way to London to pick my daughter up then weekend in Brighton
Was away at 4 visiting farms , then Stow auction , then more farms , bought some nice hay off a nice chap near Banbury , lovely day , but the clock of life won't stop ticking for anyone
Hi there- please can I ask you to pick this up directly with RPA who will be better placed to advise on this point?@Janet Hughes Defra - If in the process, of surrendering a farm tenancy, would it be better to wait until applications are available (April) before transfering RLR land parcels?
Bump ?Defra question
Why would it be necessary to dispose of , (or rent out) land rather than just not claim any subs amounts in any form, and surrender the entitlements to RPA .
By the time the transaction has been concluded , and agreed , so might the retiring farmer .
And its like the gov is telling you what you can or cant own or have after retiring without claiming further subs .
You can keep land to rent out for an income ,or you can gift it away , but you cant keep it to play with ?
Prosper? Really? You know very well that many sectors of it is going into severe long term decline, not likely to prosper in any way. Hence ‘help’ some get out before they go bust and need to claim ’The Social’. While the offer is slightly better than a kick in the teeth, it is hardly going to scratch the surface for most people. Compare it with the payment to Cressida Dick for getting sacked, and she has no capital commitment in the Met Police whatsoever and has a multimillion Pound retirement pension pot to boot. That's definitely not the intention, no; we are aiming to manage the agricultural transition in a way that works for farmers and helps businesses and the sector to prosper. We set out our plans for this in the Agricultural Transition Plan here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/agricultural-transition-plan-2021-to-2024.

Hi there. It's a one-off scheme (timings are set out in the guidance). We're not expecting large-scale take-up; it's just for the small minority of farmers who want to exit the sector to help them to do so in a managed way.@Janet Hughes Defra
Hi Janet
what level of uptake are you expecting in the exit scheme?
will this just be open in 2022 or again in 2023 too?
thanks
