Extinction rebellion; what would you do?

Starting to think they have a point when you see the profits the likes of shell/BP are making and I can’t for the life of me work out how it could be sorted.

In a word: Localization.
The vast majority of businesses on here have so much to gain by recognizing the common ground you have with the environmental movement.
Yet so many wont even go there in their heads, as typified by bollox like this:

If your customers are buying meat, then they are not environmental nutters...

They're using XR as camouflage, yes, as are other groups. That's the weakness of the idea. I don't think there's the strength within XR to counter them effectively ~ presuming they're seen for what they are within the umbrella. It wouldn't surprise if there's loads of naivety slooshing around within XR.
my problem or issue with extinction rebellion (and other similar groups), is the fact that a lot of members are vegan because they want to end animal agriculture. I have a lot of sympathy for a lot of the aims of the environmental movement (I try to live a relatively low impact lifestyle) but the refusing to listen to coherent arguments about diet and their impact on the world (as well as control of apex predators, reintroductions & carbon offset tree planting) have alienated me from the groups.

That will not happen in softy Britain:rolleyes:
A lot of extinction rebellion/black lives matter protesters are the children of middle/upper middle class "well brought up" families, so the police won't do much, where as equally divisive national front or other right wing groups tend to have a lot of working or lower class supporters, so are fair game for the police!

No.

If it wasn't "Environmentalism", "Oil" or "Climate Bollox" it would be something else.

These people are NOT interested in ANY issues - if they were they would be actually be fixing the problems rather than causing more.

These people are professional hypocritical protestors and utterly useless even to themselves.

We've had this conversation before and the plastic still gets sent to foriegn countries to be dumped in the sea, burnt or buried. Grow up and understand what you are making - the world is getting more polluted and potentially terminally toxic because of "Environmentalism".

We have. And you will recall that I explained that in my waste management days we refused to collect plastic for recycling specifically for the reasons you state.

Your sweeping assessment of environmentalists holds as much water as 'all farmers rip hedges up and pump slurry into rivers'. The environmental movement is on your side. Get over yourself, accept it, and work with them.

How the hell can you say their on our side when they against normal farming and think cows are destroyers of the planet ??

That’s what I’d like to know too.

For some reason @delilah cannot comprehend why I, as a dairy farmer, consider vegans to be “the enemy“ and why I thought his McDonald’s versus vegan cafe was a flawed question from the off

In a vegan world, my cows would not exist … and I love my cows

They - environmentalists - are against normal farming ? Nope you've lost me.

That’s what I’d like to know too.

It wasn't flawed. You didn't allow yourself to process it beyond 'one sells meat, the other doesn't'.

no figures at all, perception I have gained from social media posts to be honest. I have read the social media posts and they have turned me off wanting to know more about them.

No figures then. The vast majority of supporters of XR will not be vegan. Why would they be ?

Of course it was flawed. Veganism is diametrically opposite to my livelihood so I was never going to “process” that thesis.

Well if you don't want to process it, you aren't going to see where it went. Your moos and mine have a healthier outlook if you all chose to go into the vegan cafe rather than McDonalds. I'm not going to explain it all again, it's in that thread.

Sorry but I would never darken the door of any vegan cafe.

That is my antithesis

(ps I follow your argument about local and anti big business but I have yet to find a use for a lentil …)

Yes. XR wish to see fossil fuel emissions reduced. Best way to do this is to bring food production home.

In a year, a typical family of 4 will emit 4.2tonnes of co2 from their house, 4.4tonnes from their car, and 8tonnes from the production, processing, packaging and distribution of the food they eat.

My figures. References available.

I'll pay £10/tonne emitted. There done.
