The war in Ukraine...

Ukraine is not part of NATO & unlikely ever to be, so he's pretty safe lobbing the odd nuke in there if the need arises, not that there be much of Ukraine worth having when this is finally over.

The best advise my late father gave me was "never fall out with your neighbours or else one day it will cost you far more than them" perhaps someone should have told this pocket Napoleon then maybe it would have saved half the world from starving!

that seems a dangerous strategy for you Brian, calling Putin a “pocket Napoleon”

I was looking at it the other way round, I agree they have the capability ( though maybe be more limited than we thought ).
It's our missile defense system I felt you were more clueless about , for various reasons our missile defence system has been heavily up graded in recent years and is multi layered. Your post mentions Rapier anti aircraft system, that's so out dated I'm not even sure we'd offer it to the Ukrainians.
If I'm not completely mistaken, it is still the backbone of the British AA batteries.
Sky Sabre was recently introduced in one Unit with 6 batteries in total, the bulk of the units are still operating the Rapiers. Which is short range and meant to protect military formations.
Other than that, the Type 45?
I don't know, it's definitely not meant to protect the whole Island

Really, up until 6 months ago neither NATO or the EU wanted anything to do with Ukraine as it was considered too corrupt, too many criminals, too much fighting between factions & yet now everybody is pouring money into the country just to fight the Russians, over $100 billion so far & that's just the start, if by some miracle Putin's defeated & we are all still alive to appreciate it who do you think will end up paying to rebuild the damm place.
I'm sick & tired of endless countries fecking up their own country & we stupid sods ending up footing the bill whilst our own old & young can't get the help they need, this is a bullsh!t war that should never have started & to be honest if neither Russia or Ukraine exist after it's all over would we really care!

Yes I think your thinking abit 20th Century and are ( ok won't use clueless) not upto date on our anti missile/ Air attack systems even though they've been around for a fair while now, they have been mentioned earlier in the thread, Sorry didn't realise you were German so are unaware of our defense systems, so apologies for calling you clueless.
I'm not sure how much military technology we share with Europe, certainly America has a similar system as part of their layered defense system but know of no other countries with the same technology, maybe China ;)

Brian he was voted in on the promise of trying to clean up Ukraine and from what I've heard Before the war broke out was keeping to his promises, which is probably why the west/ most of the world are prepared to back him

Prior to the war he'd already lost popularity & likely on his way out at the next election, whether or not he's a good guy he was a naive fool dealing with deadly serious people, he looked like a kid in any negotiations, is it any wonder Russia never took him seriously!

No he's dealing with a nutter as is what history tells about such people throughout history, he could have invited Putin for a tea party & offered him Ukraine, would have made no odds ,Putin still would have raped & pillaged the country & it's people:mad:

Well, I bet my English is better than your German.
So are you going to attack my argument or are you insisting on attacking my grammar to brush away my argument's legitimacy.
As if that in itself isn't enough, you are furthermore implying that I am a (paid) Russian agitator.

You can keep believing that Russia lacks the capability to deliver such weapons to Western Europe, but you might be in for a grim awakening
I never said "paid"

So we are led to believe, I have a feeling there is serious propaganda going on all sides, the BBC just as well be part of the US mouth piece these days, facts no longer seem to mater.
The other day BBC were reporting loudly a single Ukraine hero pilot had shot down 40 Russian planes on his own, turns out Ukraine made it all up & the 40 figure was for all Ukraine pilots in total.

Every country makes stuff up in war time.

Germans were terrified of the SAS before we actually had one.

The SAS were just a story & so effective the British thought they ought to set one up.

Do you think Putin is acting with a clear head ?

Not sure Putin in reality has much to do with it, I'll bet army generals fight the wars as they always do with little sympathy for anyone who gets in their way, we all like to think Putin gives every nasty order but in reality there's not much likelihood of that!

I think Putin gave the order to invade, then left it to his generals.
So you think Putin is innocent in all this?

Dont delude yourself,
the reality is that they delivered more then 250 Iskander Missles capable of delivering Nuclear Warheads to our doorstep over the course of a month, the reality is that they are able to send rockets to space, the reality is that they are able to maintain and run Nuclear reactors. Plenty of reason to believe the threat is real.

Not willing to find out
So what is your solution, we all surrender perhaps?

There is no need to worry. The UK maintains a nuclear deterrent, as does France. And one lone submarine, fully loaded, could unleash enough firepower to destroy several dozen population centres in Russia which would make any strike against the UK or it's allies pretty pointless. I'm not convinced any system will ever exist that will halt a full blown nuclear strike in it's tracks.
