How oldKnew it was too good to be true, would have been 2 weeks today without anything dieing on me!
Still alive atm but I've got about 0 hope
Extra frustrating as this one was born outside and dam had rotavecbeen having parafor, started scouring day before yesterday, drank 3l yesterday morning tubed with 2l of water yesterday lunch and drink 3.5l of milk last night, yesterday's temperatures were 38.7, 38.8 and 38.7 and had metacam day before yesterday for scour

@som farmer think how much N this is fixing. Near 50%? Clover I would guess. I fecking hate it. Any guesses why?

You’re killing them with milk
You can’t expect a week old calf to drink 6.5 lts of milk

So what do I do?
If I don't give them parafor they'll die from crypto if I do give them it then that could cause them to die as well?
Tested positive every day since birth (snap testing daily in case ecoli, rota or corona pops up)
Damned if I do, damned if I don't!
...& 2 litres of water.
Exactly what I was thinking. Thats a hell of a lot of fluid for a young calf

I don't force them to drink! That's just what she drank from the bottle, I'm only doing what my vet has said, if they're scouring they need more fluids not less is what I get told
I used to give them less until I got told on here to give them more, so which is it?

1/1.5 of milk am & pm along with water/glucose midday and slowly build up to your 6 lts over 3/4 weeks

4-6 litres, 4 litres start of the week, 6 by the end - note the minimum requirement
so yes I was technically 500ml over but she's a big calf so presumably she could handle a bit more especially if she is scouring and losing fluids

This year I've been keeping then hungry for the first few days after colostrum. If a calve is born during the night it will get am pm colostrum, then will be getting to feed a small fed the next pm, its worked.
Just because they want it, you shouldn't give it. Could never imagine feeding as much milk to a calve with signs of a milk scour as that. Theyll be less likely to scour, and if they do withdraw milk and use a binder like scour proof extra, along with others etc before you get them back on.

Yes fluids when they have scour, but Its the amount of milk they seem to be getting at such a young age, and after signs of showing scour that would sound off to me.
They need fluids but you’ve put 6.5 litres of milk & 2 of water into a sick calf. The bag says says 4-6 of milk. 8.5 litres in 3 feeds is a lot. Some powders we’ve found that you just can’t increase the milk so quick. Its not neglect or not doing enough for them it’s too much love.
Half dose works better for us than a full dose
