Yet food is where politicians seem to think we should cut our spending to pay for the increases in everything else. Seems priorities are all wrong and it shouldn’t be the only thing people can cut.
Cheap food is politically very important because its the only thing everyone needs all the time. The less they spend on food the more they can spend on other things. Good for the people who can then afford other things and good for the economy because the money gets turned over more times and new industries can get created meaning more economic growth and development and more Cheap stuff for people to buy and that creates more economic growth and it goes on and on since the start of the industrial revolution till now.
To go back to spending any more of people's income could mean a big recession and a contracted economy and how popular would that be with the general public. Politicians would get the blame and wouldn't get reelected so it's a big incentive for them to keep pushing for cheap food as it's an easy target.
Not saying for a minute that it's right. The planet has taken about all it can of growth forever and consumerism and farmers can't afford for any less money to be spent on food. Where do we go from here.....

I think farmers are one of the best groups of people for spending their hard earned money and putting it back into the community

so that’ll make a 40kg lamb £140 in the live ring this week then?
Might put £135 reserve on mine this week can’t keep selling them at £125-130 the way things keep getting more expensive
Yes, they need to be £140 going by deadweight quotes and Ruthin's average last Tuesday. Overall average 350.8ppk on lambs weighed straight out of the trailer.

Probably because in our lifetime food has been cheap and getting cheaper and so plentiful. The present generation really don’t know what it’s like to do without.
Pha what cost of living crisis , ?Bath and West show Thurs most food stalls sold out by 3pm and the cider bars as well, many burgers in the £8 -10 bracket simple cakes(the little ones you get in the bakery) £3-4 and huge queues about hr to get anything and was similar yesterday

Possibly was it £7 of benefit for every £1 of subsidy or something?
That is different to people spending money on food though their wages that can easily be spent on other things like cars and new iPhone subsidy can't really be spent like that.
It's why Boris wants a high wage economy there is no other way to get growth than people getting more money to spend. How that will work out who knows probably with more things being done abroad where wages are cheaper.

Impressive to sell so many in such a short time. I wonder what the queues like to load up!

Would anyone be interested in a 'no lamb week'?
It would stop our customers taking us for granted and a shortage would certainly lift the trade.
It worked well last time it was done, i had a real trade that week!
No mention of investing and buying into your own lamb abattoir x 2 with Farmers Fresh Ltd. Set up 22 years ago and going well. Set up to help the industry by farmers and get the meat abroad. This can expand again with more investment. Shareholders funds are very healthy and they are main buyers around here in the live markets.

We had some lads here helping us before lambing time and they were saying it was difficult to both heat their houses and feed their families. They weren’t on much more than basic wage and probably liked a drink but at that end of the scale I don’t think wages have gone up. Mother and father seemed better off in the 80’s and we had no money most of the time then

Yes the buy a few of my hoggs

Biden was campaigning a few weeks ago about the percentage feed lot men get back it’s dropped dramatically and they only have four meat companies to sell to
Does anyone know what finished price was in the 80’s compared to retail we could compare it to now to get an idea
