Drought

Very seriously dry even here on the edge of Dartmoor, started feeding the suckler herd to stretch out what seriously crisp grass there is, sometimes a little rain is worse than none at all as it seems to burn faster after, my father always reckoned in a drought a little rain persuades the roots to look upwards for moisture making it far worse, not sure if that's a scientific fact but it sounded plausible!

Feeding seven groups now. One in village is 3 bulls on 20 acres

The first pictures are 6 lives on 28 acres at Assington

The last two are in the next village and one field left to move to (of 4)

Then I'm out of options without feeding them as well

No rain for 17,5 weeks . None on forecast

Niece lives in St Albans, she has just come visiting home, she cannot get how green it all is North of Preston, all the rivers are back to flowing, fields all green, but once you break in the surface there is not that much moisture even with all the rain we’ve had, but I know livestock prefer sun on their backs rather than day after day of rain, but there is a limit! Hang in there southerners!

Just come back in from putting another 4000 litre on 70 trees.

Whole field soil survey and satellite images help tell us where two put it but its still a bugger of a job.

Hopefully slurry tank will be ready and on the job this week.

Picked up by BBC on lunchtime news. Interviewed deputy of NFU, told it how it is on yield and quality especially veg. Said hosepipe bans not going to make a difference.
