prime prices 'up north' seem to be higher than down 'west', according to the mkt reports, and there are different payment schemes.Neighbour up here was supplying 10k dairy bred animals to a discounter, bought and reared as calves. Seems that’s being pulled and heading back to sucklers, that is up here tho with farm payment schemes to be decided still.
If the suckler herd keeps contracting, dairy beef will replace it, or they import it.
Much of pricing will be down to the consumer, and what they are prepared to pay, logic would point towards mince and stewing steak, rather than prime joints, but nothing ever seems to be completely logical in farming.
We just have to learn to live with changing consumer habits, there's nothing we can do about it, just have to cope with them, they are, after all, our customers, and customers are always right, aren't they ...................................
