The Beef Tracker thread (no Sheep)

Clean is likely to lift barley is cheaper not as many cattle about so they should go up
They are due a lift anyway otherwise there won’t be any
You may be right about they need to lift or they wont be any but then prime lambs need a hell of a lift just to get back to prices 12 months ago let alone cover increased costs yet plenty of folks on here seem very happy/ content with the low price of lambs and are happy to produce them at such low prices regardless of how fast input prices have / are going up!

So beef may well end up being the same!

Not disagreeing with that but 12 months ago they were very dear for the time of year
They were in the 290’s up here this time last year which wasn’t a normal price for the time of year so that’s a poor comparison
290’s now would be a pleasing figure for us
I have been saying since May prices for cattle and sheep need to go up some meet my comments with resistance which is a shame for those of us who know our figures and make our living from farming
Too many hobby farmers telling the full time farmers what the beef and sheep prices need to be

12 months ago the sheep prices were not very dear! they were at the level they should have been at that time to cover costs and leave a profit margin for the farmers in the chain producing the lambs.

Previous couple of years to the above sheep prices should have been stronger than they were given the exchange rate at the time!

Prices the last 9 or so months for sheep are like you say not anywhere near enough!

The problem is some seem to be on a race to the bottom when they claim £60 is enough for a prime lamb and everyone should be able to make a profit at that price which is just a nonsense!

....

And as for a beef only thread, most farms run both sheep and cattle and thus the fortunes of both is interlinked!

You are going off on one of your tangents as usual
I often question your understanding of finances
You made a comparison of sheep prices quoting the highest price that I remember in a December which was December 21 against prices now. It kind of weakens your argument when you compare one of the highs of last year against now which is an obvious low.
No one including myself expected sheep to be as dear last December as they were.
You then come back babbling on about how sheep prices haven’t kept up with the rest of it which we all are aware of but that’s a different story
This thread says beef ‘no sheep’ maybe it’s not all your choice to be on about sheep on here
