Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

I wasn't really questioning the economics as like you say they have made decent money in the lump. It must be the pictures because any finished cattle pictures they put up always look like strong stores that need further feeding. I'm not saying they actually do need it, it's just what they look like.
The skins don’t look like fat cattle as well. My stores usually have less hair about them

It was a genuine question, I don't finish cattle apart from one per year for the freezer,
would be glad to get them looking like that

One of my theories is the cost of money that is knocking the calf price, I may be wrong but basically interest rates.

Most overdrafts now are plus 10% or even 15%, who wants to outlay capital for a long time by intaking calves and keeping them for 18 months, at least with heavy stores they can be spun round quicker and a faster turnaround on investment/capital.

I also think alot of dairy farmers have made good money out of milk at 50p so are less bothered about the extra work of keeping calves and are happy to get rid of them, what with forage shortages and TB etc too.
Are.most OD's 10-15%? Seems bloody high unless they arent secured

Silage fed cattle. They will be dearer than they look as they won’t die with honour.
