DD wheat post OSR

Slugs are absent after rape this year, hardly any grazing so not needed any pellets yet.
There are a few after beans but not enough damage to warrant pellets yet.
This is DD wheat after OSR drilled end of September. No slug pellets applied.

Did you notice any slugs about or were they just all gone?
Gave mine 7kg at drilling because they're always a problem but this year I could probably have got away without. The slugs were easy to find, as usual, but very lethargic and had engorged mantles, as if they were all parasitised.
This is my first year DD so I might have got lucky. My second WW was hit harder by slugs. I'm also no putting any insecticide on for the first time. I could only find a few aphids in this field so it doesn't justify killing everything else. Could be big mistake. 🤷‍♂️

I had some slug grazing on this WW DD after beans drilled 10 Oct. Photos taken 10 Novemver. Recommended to pellet but the weather was rubbish so I didn't and I think it has done just fine so saved myself a few hundred ££££

Wheat after beans is the biggest risk from slugs here
imho it is because the slugs have nothing else to eat
the key is drill early and a well closed seed slot and rolling with a sharp heavy ring roll
heavy land after beans can be very hard so disc drilling needs to be slower to ensure depth
with a tine drill cloddy slot can be hard to roll tight enough

With this field and a couple of others I rolled after harvest to encourage a chit. I didn't roll after drilling. This is quite light land well two thirds of this field is anyway.

I do not recall seeing slug issues behind beans though I accept it could happen.

How do you guys control blackgrass in the OSR if dd the following crop with wheat?
I always find osr difficult to control grassweeds in unless it is a super crop of osr which has been hard to achieve in recent years. If you have bad grassweeds one option is to spray the volunteers osr off early and then dd your wheat as late as possible so your pre m can have as much impact and you get a chance to put a little bit more roundup in the mix.

At this stage I am not ready to grow an OSR crop without kerb/astrokerb just relying upon centurion max yet which might have bigger repercussions down the line, i have omitted it on certain areas to use as a trial and i always feel/viewed its use is certainly justified for the seed return/plants growing. Perhaps I have been a bad farmer and I have a larger seedbank than others but in the distant future I will hope to be able to grow crops more cost effectively.
