I hate modern tractors

With respect, there's your issue your staff aren't looking after your machinery. The sensors, brakes, filters, electrics etc etc will all be caked in mud.

You're running kit worth hundreds of thousands of pounds you need to have staff training, protocols and procedures in place or you will be peeing money away on repairs, been there done that.
Dave King (of D King Electronic repair) told me that pressure washers cause far more electronic problems than dirt or mud.

A question on the fault codes;
Your newish £150,000 machine puts up a fault code and an example could be as posted ‘I’ve lost my fingernail’ 😁 and instantly goes into limp mode.
Funny but not so funny in a paddock. Do you call the supplier and wait for it to be diagnosed where it sits or do any folk have a fault code reader? This would enable the operator to do a quick diagnosis, a quick reset and go from there.
Continuing this train of thought are tractor fault codes similar irrespective of make ie, a JD would sing in tune with a Ford?
SS
Jd fault codes are read through the tractor screen. Usually you cab keep going with them until you can get then fixed but if it's serious it'll de rate engine power or go into limp mode .

My fastrac is doing this intermittently just now to do with the add blu dpf side of it it's annoying but I've never actually been stopped with it yet .

Contractor that does my ploughing once had a cvx Case on demo. He climbed out of the cab, lit one of his rolleys and said " Try this, see what you think of it". So I climbed in, moved the shuttle, pressed the throttle, pressed a few buttons on the arm rest, nowt happened!
I could get the plough to lift and lower but that was it.
Then just as I was about to give up, it set off! and to this day I don't know what i did to make it move..
If you got off the seat, you would have to press the clutch pedal down to restart the transmission, if it’s like my autopower. Electric handbrake comes on too if you jump out without putting it on. (y)

What were u doing to it?
I used to have a couple of 7810 fords, cant recall much going wrong.
Certainly not a fortune.
I paid £20k for them brand new, less thsn the price of a power command gearbox
12,000 hours ( I think, clock stopped working for a few years )
3rd clutch recently fitted, 1 water pump. Engine / gearbox / backend untouched.
Happily buy a new one, although leccy forward / reverse shuttle would be nice.

But let’s be realistic about all of the costs of this tech. It’s not trivial.
Comes down to cost per ha to get the job done I guess, I spent many years ridging veg land with markers and would say GPS has increaed out put around 20%, that's less fuel, depreciation wages etc. It's not cheap but sitting down and doing the sums it pays for itself easily in my opinion BUT you need to have the workload to warrant it or the cost per ha saved would be marginal

I'm with you on the JD 7810's, very reliable in my experience, might struggle in certain applications today with the increase in size and oil flow requirements of some implements.
40 series Fords were hit and miss when they came out, early SLE tractors were decent, SL's seemed to really struggle. The local dealer at the time had to take some back and were regularly working on them. At the time there were a lot of people complaining about "new modern crap" quite a few people moved away from the brand, but today they are highly regarded.
I remember when 20 series Deeres came out, they were junk too apparently, sought after now though.
30 series Deeres were crap apparently but now are well sort after. Our 6330 std is the reason we just bough our 2nd Deere.

Well I love modern tractors and all their tech.
I’m of an age that grew up using open station tractors, nufields, dbs and god help me an mf 169, and since then till now we’ve run fords, countys (3) ,Davy browns, case and jd to arrive at the present all fendt line up.
Would I go back and drive a machine from the past, no way, not a chance.
My wife drives the combine a lot of the time and with auto steer the header is full pass after pass after pass, with out auto steer something I couldn’t do even after 40+ harvests, techs there to be used, use it.

I had three 30 series deeres and two were a nightmare regards error codes, one would de-rate if you turned right out of the yard but not left🤬 I never did solve that and traded it against another,I still rate them as one of the best tractors ever made though.

JDs throw up error codes like “my eyelash is broken” or “I’ve chipped a fingernail“ but down tools just the same … (tbh, I haven’t a clue other than son is on the phone either to the men finding out what’s gone wrong now, our pet mechanic or one of the local dealers)

The Fastrac decided to lunch its front diff whilst on the plough. Apparently it’s a “well known issue” on the older 4220 and the newer ones have a beefed up diff. To do with lateral forces eg crab steer but there is no good will just an estimate for £5.5k for a new one plus workshop time plus labour all at peak maize drilling time.
Regarding your fastrac ,you probably got a good mechanic to do the job .I have destroyed Daniel on here before, and since I’ve been posting his name and number, he has picked up a lot of work from TFF members repairing fastrac’s
I have just mentioned your front axle and diff to him and his reply was i no why, that’s gone . I can not put his reason up on a open forum.
So gave him ring on 07581062079

Sorry it’s a miss from me! Engines that sound like a bag of spanners, no shuttle, that gawd awful back window!
If you want classic, get a Maxxum, just starting to be run in at 12k hours!
No actually I’ve got one and the T6 autocommand is a much nicer place to be!

Everyone saying I’d rather pull a lever than push a button all day, don’t have to push any buttons or turn any wheel once you’ve set the auto turn and hms 👌work smarter not harder
Many people aren't capable of setting up and operating all this fancy technology.

I'd take it everytime. Have a couple older guys help us and just can't get there head round it.

Both very capable operators, mechanics. Better than me. But just can't seem to grasp modern stuff. Maybe it's just I'm not good at explaining things.

Our maxxum i think is about spot on (though i'd like a better loader joystick than the cable one...). 16x16 box, same as in the old 40 series fords pretty much. More or less a TM back end. And the FPT engines are known for being pretty bomb proof. Had the adblue deleted. Its got enough comfort and its nice enough to drive to keep me happy, and its simple enough that dad can drive it.
