Anyone using these tags at all? If so how you getting on?

All my feeding runs off Eid tags and am fed up with the cows losing plastic flag/button tags and then not being fed properly. Hoping these will last better?

Experiencing a 10% flag tag loss before weaning them as calves is frustrating to say the least 🤦
Been using them for about 18months now, so far not lost one! They read better than the buttons too.

Just not with your eyes

you want to try buying in calves, some farms are nearly 50% tag loss, or different numbers in each ear ! Because they won't see the calf again, they just stick the tag in.

Got a couple of cows that get through tags, on a very regular basis, don't know how they do it, but they do.

TS have a record of all replacement tags ordered, if you order too many, they start looking.

How big a shed would be required to loose house 60-75 spring calving Friesian cows?

How big would a self feed clamp be?

Simple OAD system cows out most of the year even just a few hours.

Asking for a friend.

I would say a sensible minimum of 5sqm/head of bedded area and 20cm feed space. You can keep them clean with a sensible amount of straw at this level but more space is better.

If they spend less time in they'll need less bedded area but need more feed face if on self feed.

15 years ago we were supposed to have 10sqm/ head for soil association.

AHDB have a video on Youtube for self feed silage, IIRCC 6-9 inches per cow?
Thanks

Basically looking at the cheapest/simplest/low labour unit I can build on a grazing block of 107 acres.

Thinking one large shed, with parlour/collection yard on a lean too, and the rest a clamp/loose house.

Thinking of putting in small collection pit for parlour waste water - empty weekly upto other dairy unit large slurry laggoon, then a total straw based yfm system. Compost system onto arable/maize ground.

Basically milk one unit am one unit pm. Jersey would be best suited (small/light weight)but that doesn't suit our dairy beef system.

Definitely too far to walk them back to the current parlour?
