RPA inspections....reasonable or not ?

We are still free to act unilaterally. Nobody will be forced to sign up to all the additional rules and bureaucracy that SFI entails. And now it’s a lot less simple and profitable than BPS opting out is an easy decision for me.

don't think you'll have less inspection's going forward , aparently ea are recruiting massivly and they will all be expected to cover thier salerie's!

We had an ea one earlier this summer and one of the most refreshing inspections we have had in years. Easier than red tractor

They can inspect all they like but a deduction of 5%, 15% or 50% of FA sub is still FA so good luck to them with that.

Yeah we’ve had a couple of EA inspections. No bother. But RPA have always made problems.

They’ve always handed out fines if you’ve broken the law whether you claim subs or not and they’ll continue to do so. But they won’t be deducting subs if you don’t claim any.
What’s more if you are not in a scheme you will only be judged against the law of the land in a court of law, not against some arbitrary and subjective rules dreamt up by DEFRA for SFI and inspected by some amateur with an agenda from the RPA.
Why subject yourself to all that for peanuts.
Just steam ahead free of all that. That’s my view. I’m not hanging on every word the sacred Janet says or every tweet from DEFRA. I’m busy getting with growing stuff like wheat and lambs. Big heaps and fat lambs pay the bills. All the other crap is a timewasting distraction I can manage without.
Surely they will be far to busy administering sfi to bother with non claimants

And remember, RPA are motivated to claw back payments to justify their salaries. As they are judge and jury it costs them very little to deduct your payments so they can be as slack, arbitrary and unhelpful as they like about it with no comebacks or skin in the game.
The EA, TS etc on the other hand ultimately have to take you to court if you disagree and prove their case in front of a judge. That’s quite a different matter as it can cost them thousands and they won’t necessarily win, so in my experience they don’t have so much of an inclination to nit pick, “find” problems or refuse to disclose evidence like the RPA did with us.

We had it back in March, boss and his wife were in South Africa, his wife does the passports. We were told we had to have made a start within 48 hours. So I gave them all the passports and two women came, one to hold the barcode scanner and the other to turn the page of the passports. I was generated a list of about 18 numbers they were unable to find which I went straight to as they are all in number order, they must have had some stuck together or got distracted because there were sometimes 3 or 4 together. The next day I said they could come out to read calf tags whilst they drank their milk on the feeders. I had 70 cattle in the village to trailer back to go through the crush. We had 1 and a half days putting cows through the crush between normal routine.
In all honesty to women was helpful and pleasant enough, it’s not her fault we have to do the inspection it’s just her job.
The worst part was when she said it’ll probably be an annual thing now that we’re over 1000 head of cattle
The following week we then had a TB test then the following week red tractor.

To be fair the few times EA have been round they were quite fair and worked with you to get round any problems they found or thought might become a problem and were decent about it ,
one instance was a fuel tank near a drain , he asked how long it had been there , and because it had been there before 1991
( I think )
he said we can't make you move it but would be good idea to ,
So moved it anyway to get ( brownie points ) and a bit of BS to put in his report
