My good lady's been down to the butchers, bought a nice joint of topside we put it on the kitchen scales 1215grms
What would people in the know think a fair price would be .
I'm thinking they saw her coming but I may be wrong.

Where are you? Its been a while but last time I was in South Oxfordshire I saw the prices in Newitts in Thame and wondered how anybody survived then went up to Leicester and the local butcher was about half the price.

Just pay the money ffs. Or go to your local farm shop or farmers market and buy direct from the producer if you resent an independent butcher trying to make a living. What are you wanting to do , compare the price to Tesco ? Why ? Muppet.

But we don’t know how much it was yet. I tend to agree with your comments but it is always possible that the wife of the OP had her leg lifted.

Well, if I can't buy decent Woodheads Topside/Silverside/Toprump roasting joints in Morrison's between now and Christmas on a blowout for £7kg, I'll be surprised and disappointed.... Still eating last years that were £5.99 iirc.
