Thought I'd start a poll on whether any/many members are planning on chucking the towel in given the multi faceted sh!t we seem to be dealing with at the moment. And whether you could be persuaded against it.

24 months yes.

Given the state of this weeks rain, Im not sure my farm will be in tip-top condition for selling in 12 months time. Im aiming for harvest 2025 to be my last, at least of wheat and in the UK. Also allows for timely machinery and financial planning. I think really it takes a fair while to get everything in a tidy row to move on.

Had a rubbish year last year that nearly finished me. Still feeling the after effects with low lamb numbers but tupping is in full swing with an increase in breeding ewes from last year. Have more grass this year than I ever had and ewes look great. Next year Rodney.
Will keep going. 63.

Thought about it this last spring, not so much the farming but life in general.
Wife and I had the “ talk” but we both want to farm , being later to full time farming I’ve seen pressure in other industry as well as farming, we have decided to crack on , at least for the next 5 years
It's what the body is saying as well as

The farming and the animals we can manage, but we’re due a supermarket inspection which keeps changing the goalposts and looking at the bullsh@t that red tractor are wanting to do this week I’m afraid the fun is not there in the job now. We all seem to be farming inspectors, experts and cunsultants nowadays and don’t have time to enjoy the great outdoors.

Why do you need to get it in a ‘tidy row’? We walked a farm last week that still had old dry cow tubes on the milking parlour floor (they stopped milking in 2009) and the yard littered with sh*t and silage wrap. They were still asking good money for it though.🤐

Maybe the key to a good sale is to make any viewers think they can improve it, rather than presenting the place in good order?🤷‍♂️

Last year was absolute bollox and still feeling the pinch from it now compensating for the drought ,
think you done the right thing at the time moving the cows on so you didn't have to buy food in for them !

Personal pride? In reality, there wont be a for sale sign put up. But it will have had all the potential for development explored etc.

I can still kickstart the matchless ( even when the bar steward kicks back) so there’s life in me yet !
Looked at sfi and with 3 local farms all having cross compliance inspections this last few weeks, I am tempted to just crack on and tell them to stick the scheme’s .
We’re fortunate in owning it all so if my son doesn’t want it we will rent it to a youngster or just sell the lot
