I produce or try to produce what the market wants. I’ve looked at what sells the best and set to work to breed what the demand is for.Always seems to be huge reluctance to try and improve beef product in this country.
No idea what you are talking about, do you have an example of his work ?Can’t believe you’re accusing @muleman of having no artistic talent…
There is a measure of the end result and that is what makes hundreds of pounds more per head. There’s the resultIve never mentiond breeds, im unaware of which breeds would score highest on eating quality it could be your beloved limmys for all i know …… all i say is we sell a product that has no measure of end result … its daft the better it tastes the more that will sell but obviously plenty cant see the big picture beyond their own here and now .
Have you not seen the famous portrait of an Angus heifer? No idea what you are talking about, do you have an example of his work ?
what’s that, about 15/20p about this time last year?Sqq 2.65 in Ross today.
Mine were 51.2kg £138.
I had 43.7 £103 this day last year. Probably that weight would of been £10 or so more today......what’s that, about 15/20p about this time last year?
You have no idea what other farmers are up to do you …..There is a measure of the end result and that is what makes hundreds of pounds more per head. There’s the result

Could be improved …….Im not sure what you are trying to achieve by this
You say Limousin beef isn’t as good point out all the bad things about Limousin cattle (which I’ve actually agreed with you on most of them) then get your knickers in a twist on here when someone mentions breeds which on the whole make less
Have you made some assumptions thinking yours is better than other folk’s before you started with this ?Could be improved …….
Absolutely not.Have you made some assumptions thinking yours is better than other folk’s before you started with this ?
Yep variety is the spice of life and the good thing about the market system is there is someone for most anything on offer and long may it stay that way, once they have us all nailed down producing the same thing to the same size and the same spec and integrate it all in to their system then they will screw us to the last penny and the job will be lost.I'd hazard a guess @Henarar was being somewhat facetious/tongue in cheek. I for one welcome variety, be a boring old world if we all farmed the same things! If it came to that we may as well call ourselves Yanks, or even worse, Antipodeans .
Ive often thought its a wonder the super markets have not forced us all down the route of all producing a very similar product ….. i think they have cut us alot of slack on that subject …Yep variety is the spice of life and the good thing about the market system is there is someone for most anything on offer and long may it stay that way, once they have us all nailed down producing the same thing to the same size and the same spec and integrate it all in to their system then they will screw us to the last penny and the job will be lost.
so hears to variety and long may it continue
they try to but are their own worst enemy, soon as something is a little cheaper cos its "out of spec" they buy it anyway, same with non RT and so on, they can't help themselvesIve often thought its a wonder the super markets have not forced us all down the route of all producing a very similar product ….. i think they have cut us alot of slack on that subject …
So the family that bought and paid for the farm got it all wrong???We had a Hereford bull father got fed up of selling the small gutty hairy calves off it that weren’t worth much, there was an Angus before that same comments think he was a bit nasty.
That’s why we changed to Limousin
