Currently its estimating 1st service in 3600 miles time with the miles done 15690
Close to 20k mile services.. f that my friend...it will be fuel burn calc.

With no sampling i wouldnt exceed 10k kms...even when they recommend 15k, so many new donks blow up...and timing chain is the achillies heel of many engines.. which you are chasing lubricity on a different level to engine.

The service book says 18,000 miles, looks like i will get another 1000 miles out of it, previous car was similar and went to 85,000 without issue before being traded in.

Serviced to manufacturer's recommendations and keeps warranty intact... so what is the problem?
Transits with same engine go for 25,000 or 30,000 and will end up with very high miles, so cannot be much of an issue.
Don’t take any notice at all. I have a neighbour who ran a freelander 2 and never did service it 😂 he’s only recently let it go due to corrosion. There’s a happy medium to be had. I wait for the light to come on and then just do it as like you say; manufacturer ought to know best. Maybe 50 years ago when oils were pretty poor it would have been a different story.

Exactly, that's why they put that little light on there isn't it?
