How soon after calving would you serve?

I think Jingle is coming on for this evening, she's only calved 17 days though.

She's doing over 40 litres now but is putting weight back on after calving (up 2kg 3 days ago since calving - weigh everything at calving and 2 weeks afterward) so not sure if I would be wasting a straw? But then again if she's putting weight on that suggest she could have energy enough to get in calf?

Also had a feed rep saying that the first heat is the strongest as that egg was made during the dry period when there's less pressure on the cow?
She's incalf 👌

That Mr W is the only rep that turns up here unannounced - I am obviously too nice to him. I've put the runs on all the rest, they all make the fatal mistake of asking to speak to my husband....

@Headless chicken are you buying montbeliardes from viking?

Yep monties coming via them. Most of them are supplying via coopex but think there is one other Monty stud company now too. Price is eye watering though in comparison to other breeds

I’ve just asked the price from cogent they are not cheap. Do you use conventional or sexed?
We’ve been conventional historically, moved to sexed this year after a trip to America and discussions on where we want the herd to be

We've been buying Monty from Genus and sexed straws are £40+!! I will enquire with viking!
Not hugely cheaper with Viking, coopex set the price sadly so think hands are tied with most companies.
I used pactole and sanmarco this year

Anyone else fed up of reps ringing. Got one CRV one that’s rung 5 times in the last 2 days and left 3 messages. I’m on holiday this week if I wanted to talk to him I’d of rung back when I got his first message. But no because he’s in the area this week all of a sudden he’s the most important person going. I won’t ever be buying from CRV after this now.

They seem to be getting worse now everyone’s tightening there belts
We are in 2 buying groups. We only need to tell them that once, all the major AI companies get a chance to tender for business through the group if they are keen and other local smaller companies for other purchases . The only reps we get physically turning up are ones new on the scene, mainly for oil/lubes.

Talking of reps. Ordered a couple pallets of milk powder in early November, told them I didn't want it delivered until mid December. Turned up about 3 days later.

Usually invoiced at end of the delivery month, payment 30 days thereafter , so should have been for payment 31st January if they'd delivered when asked. But I've had reminders demanding payment 29th December and now a solicitors letter sitting in front of me. :banghead:

So your 17 days late with their terms and you have a solicitor letter. A word with your rep should have sorted payment terms. They are quick on the go with solicitor's letter.

Did you use WhatsApp? If you did I’d just tell them to come lift it and get it somewhere else

our vets invoice 30th month

if you order 31st month, get another invoice, which their computer gives a late payment reminder, generated by the 2nd invoice.

but after the PO fiasco, not sure any computer system is 100% correct. Local business got ransom hacked, now 'new' computer system, the 2 best people in the office, are leaving, cannot cope with the 'new system', - not logical.
