There’s a whole world outside of farming

Where's the poverty message?Of course, most farmers work very hard, I don't begrudge them any of it, they should make lots of money and many do. Many make enough to invest in other income streams too, so don't just have to depend on farming.
Just pushing back on the poverty message that's getting spun on here at the minute.
Not sure how many of you know Ollie personally whilst having a go at him here.
I know him really well and he’s a sound guy.
Easy to poke the bear on platforms like this when you don’t really know the guy.
Oh and he’s done a huge amount for other people, much more than most of us I guess.
If you were to ask him politely for his views rather than goad him he might be a little more forthcoming. But reading some of the comments here and the lynch mob is already in town looking for a tree
I would, people love a bit thunder (no such thing as bad publicity), plus we have to have some integrity? don't we?Can’t blame him really he’s on the gravy train and his YouTube finances his life I wouldn’t rock the boat if I was him either really
what a complete arse, funded by farmers for supermarkets,Rumour has it that hasn't gone down too well with his employers...
Where's the poverty message?
So you can't show me any examples? We obviously read different threads.
I replied to a thread just yesterday where a tenant farmer with 300 acres and a fulltime job claimed he couldn't feed his family. So you can't show me any examples?
In his defence iv talked to a farming neigbour of his and he says hes a thouroughly decent bloke who would drop everything at a moments notice if you needed help.Ollys the reason I ve never joined The NFU, Hes not reprosentative of the average farmer, But he is of the NFU that i know, loves to hear his own voice
Someone I know screws his neighbours, and gives to charity.
They have yes, the main profit in farming is property value increase and owning a base to diversify from.Plenty have.
That’s a bloody low blow that. He’s done more for charity than I guess you ever will. It's mummy's and daddy's farm if you start off with a few million, can't really go wrong to be fair.
Best of luck to him
Then why not kick arse with his tongue, than be seen to do nothingI watch Ollie's videos sometimes. He's mentioned Red Tractor on more than one occasion.
Can't remember exactly, but in one video he was showing frustration after a meeting. Sounded like they were wittering on about stuff for hours, and I got impression not easy for farmers to have much say, get voted down etc.
More recently he was saying about the new "lighter touch" RT Combinables standards which have been drawn up, and he sort of suggested all the farmers might just downgrade to that version, then flour mills wouldn't have any choice. Think that's what he said. So that suggestion was very much in favour of how farmers could use the opportunity to vote with their feet and make the standards easier.
It's hard, because I suppose they're not supposed to say anything when on these boards, but as farmers we find the lack of communication is frustrating. Hence maybe why this thread exists.
Personally I suspect Olly has said maybe more than he was supposed to about RT.
tbh, although I don't know him at all, I imagine Ollie is one of the good guys. I'd rather Ollie on RT Board than most.
Oh and to top it off somehow a piece of metal has eneded up in the mill and shattered a roller. What an utter f**k up of a day, im going for a guinness.Rather not, its wet, misrable, iv got flu, a good bull ill with its guts, i dont fancy reading what that moron has to say.
Know what you mean, such a variety, and as down under, were all running our buisnesses in our own way, and "Im alright jack" behind the scenesI replied to a thread just yesterday where a tenant farmer with 300 acres and a fulltime job claimed he couldn't feed his family.
There are many claims on here suggesting farmers live on less than minimum wage and there's nothing to be made while the "public" have it easy and make a fortune.
On the other hand, there are a lot of new toys, how do I avoid tax, what should I do with my money/rental properties threads too.
As an outsider I find it an interesting mix and regularly suggest it as the reason UK farmers won't stand together.
I don’t know the bloke at all, hardly any of us will, but the impression I get is he’s grown the place significantly on his watch and he grafts at it. He’s raised a massive amount for charity, promotes mental health awareness constantly and is very forward thinking and open minded. And he lays it all bare, warts and all, on a daily basis, for nosey parkers like us to pore over and criticise. It's mummy's and daddy's farm if you start off with a few million, can't really go wrong to be fair.
Best of luck to him
