Of course, most farmers work very hard, I don't begrudge them any of it, they should make lots of money and many do. Many make enough to invest in other income streams too, so don't just have to depend on farming.
Just pushing back on the poverty message that's getting spun on here at the minute.
Where's the poverty message?

Not sure how many of you know Ollie personally whilst having a go at him here.
I know him really well and he’s a sound guy.
Easy to poke the bear on platforms like this when you don’t really know the guy.

Oh and he’s done a huge amount for other people, much more than most of us I guess.

If you were to ask him politely for his views rather than goad him he might be a little more forthcoming. But reading some of the comments here and the lynch mob is already in town looking for a tree ☹️

A fair point, well made, that somebody could equally post in virtually every online thread.

These discussions arise due to the vacuum created when we don't have answers/ responses from these bodies, to which we can refer.
I don't believe TFF profligates misinformation but we all try to make sense of the circumstances we are experiencing in the absence of the provision of any accurate information.

I would think it would be immensely constructive for Olly or any one else to respond although I appreciate the reluctance to start a conversation that is impossible to control or stop, in this medium.

Can’t blame him really he’s on the gravy train and his YouTube finances his life I wouldn’t rock the boat if I was him either really 🤷🏻‍♂️
I would, people love a bit thunder (no such thing as bad publicity), plus we have to have some integrity? don't we?

For what its worth @Beefsmith i thought your question was perfectly worded reasonably asked, its clear he's not firstly a farmer, he's an influencer now who happens to be a farmer, shame he cant use that for farmers in general but its different strokes for different folks i guess.

Christ the french know how to protest ive not seen news for a while and they were laying soil on motorways we need more of their sprit.

IMO.
once you are on several ‘Boards’ it is really difficult to go back to giving a proper objective view. Ok, the fellow may have worked hard to get on said boards but now the gravy train runs smoothly why rock it?
And FYI I am not a Farmer, simply a smallholder but see and hear what is happening.
Similar dgaf happened with RASE and it folded. 😪

So you can't show me any examples?🤷
I replied to a thread just yesterday where a tenant farmer with 300 acres and a fulltime job claimed he couldn't feed his family.
There are many claims on here suggesting farmers live on less than minimum wage and there's nothing to be made while the "public" have it easy and make a fortune.

On the other hand, there are a lot of new toys, how do I avoid tax, what should I do with my money/rental properties threads too.

As an outsider I find it an interesting mix and regularly suggest it as the reason UK farmers won't stand together.

In his defence iv talked to a farming neigbour of his and he says hes a thouroughly decent bloke who would drop everything at a moments notice if you needed help.

It's mummy's and daddy's farm if you start off with a few million, can't really go wrong to be fair.

Best of luck to him
That’s a bloody low blow that. He’s done more for charity than I guess you ever will.
As for mummy and daddy’s farm, how else is any one Sutton start? I’m only farming in my own right because of my in-laws, I started with nothing and have most of it left through hard graft.

I watch Ollie's videos sometimes. He's mentioned Red Tractor on more than one occasion.

Can't remember exactly, but in one video he was showing frustration after a meeting. Sounded like they were wittering on about stuff for hours, and I got impression not easy for farmers to have much say, get voted down etc.

More recently he was saying about the new "lighter touch" RT Combinables standards which have been drawn up, and he sort of suggested all the farmers might just downgrade to that version, then flour mills wouldn't have any choice. Think that's what he said. So that suggestion was very much in favour of how farmers could use the opportunity to vote with their feet and make the standards easier.

It's hard, because I suppose they're not supposed to say anything when on these boards, but as farmers we find the lack of communication is frustrating. Hence maybe why this thread exists.

Personally I suspect Olly has said maybe more than he was supposed to about RT.

tbh, although I don't know him at all, I imagine Ollie is one of the good guys. I'd rather Ollie on RT Board than most.

Then why not kick arse with his tongue, than be seen to do nothing

Its ok to do charity from his position, its mostly time, but also a good advert tool

Know what you mean, such a variety, and as down under, were all running our buisnesses in our own way, and "Im alright jack" behind the scenes
This thread is a case in point, big farmer and pushes to be in the public eye, local know him and "hes ok". Must like to be liked!!!!
As soon as such sit on these boards they get to be YES men

Back to the original, and farming was far far more profitable in the 70s/ 80s say, tractors paid for outright, shortly after over 2 years, wheat £140 1984, inflation takes it to approx £600 now, oops misprint,,, BUT WHY THE HELL WE CANT STICK TOGETHER?????
Wonder what wed have done if still in the EU

I don’t know the bloke at all, hardly any of us will, but the impression I get is he’s grown the place significantly on his watch and he grafts at it. He’s raised a massive amount for charity, promotes mental health awareness constantly and is very forward thinking and open minded. And he lays it all bare, warts and all, on a daily basis, for nosey parkers like us to pore over and criticise.

Saying he couldn’t go wrong with mummy and daddy’s millions is a pretty low blow. Could’ve started his career in a business that just bought land with a million pound debt in the bank and a mortgage twice the size for all we know.
