The IH / Case Thread

Looking for a bit of help, I have an oil leak from the hydraulic top on a 1990 885xl,
It's from under what looks like the feed plate to the spools, I have replaced to O rings, using O rings from a selection box about a year ago, done very little hours since,
It's leaking again, are they special O sealing rings, if so where do I get them,

The picture is from Internet not my picture, and from an older red international, where mine is a newer black case, but gives you the idea of the location,
The yellow dot indicates the gland/plate/valve that's leaking between it and main hydraulic top

Hi
Yes, use original o rings and you'll be fine, some of these boxes of spurious o rings are truly awful quality unfortunately as well as probably not being the correct size.
The valve in question is called the unloader valve.

If you can get onto the online parts catalogue it should give you the o ring sizes. The o rings will be standard sizes but harder than what you'll find in a selection box. If you get the sizes order them in 90 shore hardness.

Should start a poll,,,Has ANYONE ever found the O rings in these `fits all` boxes to actually be the right size for anything? I have several boxes, think I used 1 size successfully.
No, usually find that there's one the right diameter, but the wrong gauge, although local bearing firm supplied some the right size for Kontak loader control valves once.

Just the same with plumbing O rings, except for Hozelock, plenty of them on eBay.

Having trouble with the hitch on our 584 won’t lift fully up unless you pull the spool valve at the same time been told it’s the unloader valve is that the valve in the above picture if so do we change the whole thing or is there bits inside ?

It could be a fault in the unloader valve or it could be general wear in the linkage and needing adjustment.
Has the problem just happened suddenly 🤔

This is the insides of the unloader valve.
Green is the piston and it has an orifice in it which can block.
Red is the piston seat and they can crack.
Yellow is the spring which can obviously break.
Blue is the flow control spring.
Any of these can cause issues which will cause lift problems

Thanks it’s been like it for a long time and I’ve just put up with it but recently I’ve been fetching straw so I’ve used it a lot more and I thought it’s about time I did something about it . I’ve thought about shortening the rods on the hitch would this be wise

I'd disconnect the hitch rods first, lift the arm right up using the position control lever ( not the draft lever )
Having done this you should have roughly 1.5 inch lift at the link arm ends.

G, I did not quite grasp that. Do you mean that at the top lift on the position control you should be able to lift the arms a further 1.5inches?

Exactly that Pete 👍

I mean don't get me wrong, there's a proper way to set them up by the book but I can't remember off the top of my head and I don't have a manual.
However that lift on the link arm ends is near enough, a safety margin.
You must not have the hitch rods attached though.

A very useful piece of info for the old Doncaster tractors.
