Fat cattle decent trade on Wednesday, Darlo and Thirsk sounded like a fair bit less money yesterday! Auctioneer from Carlisle rings last night saying come and get stuck in on Saturday because fat cattle are going to go through the roof in 6 months!!
I love how these store auctioneers make up these stories 2 days before a biggish sale 😂
I heard that one buyer told me last night his clean hung up 25p less dead on the week from Darlington

I did make the joke about hoying some autumn/winter calving sucklers with calves out onto a railway line and putting some ewes in
It was just a joke though
Old Railway lines are grand things to have on a farm.I wish i had one. You can put anything on them, silage bales, tackle, and even winter cattle on.

Do you think the fat hogg trade will hold up ? I might clean up the last of mine next week, either fat or store. If the supermarkets are going to bring any in,it will be in the next week or two,in the run up to Easter.

No idea to be honest. The only thing I have to go on is numbers are short lambing is going to be crap in some areas so they are desperate to buy them. That’s why they are so dear in the stores. That’s all just what I was told when I’ve been leading sheep back from the mart i haven’t even been to a sale

A lot of marts , not all i know, seem to have less week on week which with the trade is surprising...South Molton in North Devon normally gets 1200 hogs this time of year ,yesterday they had less than 700 and everyone saying they dont have many left, i suppose that tells its own story

It’s hard to tell but the prospect for sheep trade looks good. I was told this by some neighbours a year or so ago but although I did take it on board but probably wasn’t convinced.
Most farmers in our area haven’t really been able to act on any of that information it’s been a case of folks trying to stay in business or busy selling up. Maybe that’s another reason they have lifted

I’m not to sure if the man doing the work is getting rewarded for his efforts and work with sheep at the front end
I sold a mix of ewes hoggets and toothers this week some wouldn’t have been with me a month six weeks and averaging 146/ head over 6k for a box behind my truck buyer said you happy yes I said but the man who done the work hasn’t had his share

Yes that’s right the more traditional type of hill farmer has consistently missed out on the highs most of the time over the years
I suppose it’s up to them to change but with change comes work and criticism especially in hill areas

Would sound about right going by some of the prices I've heard from both places yesterday, all were saying back a good 10-15p easily! That's classed as just a shade or touch back according to reports! don't need those 🔥🔥 on cattle reports at moment so they can use more on sheep reports.😃

Only so many to go round and the arsonists have been busy lately
