The ewes that have come across it will be immune now, hence flairing up again once enough naive sheep come through the system.

Standard vaccination practice, I'm told, is to vaccinate before the first tupping, then boost before the second, then let natural immunity do it's work.
Seems to work here. :)
So you do you them twice?
I think on the data sheet it says every year -we only ever do the maiden shearlings

In what ways do you think they are better than the north country mules ? As I’m thinking of trying some.
I am experimenting with them as well. Have found them surprisingly easy to work with (I thought they’d be wild things). Good mothers and producing a smarter lamb. Below is a Hogg with twins born yesterday by the Beltex.

The downsides are cost, I bought 40 gimmer lambs, at probably £20 premium over a NofE mule, two died , 3 have kicked their lambs out and 5 are empty, I probably could have bought 40 mule hoggs with lambs this spring and been as well off without having to winter them?

Probably different to you, but I usually find sheep bought from away take a while to acclimatise to our place whereas ones bought locally are already acclimatised to the area. I will have the pick of 000’s of mule gimmers within a 10 mile radius and know the farms they’ve come from, how they’re kept etc. I can then keep the first cross Texel from them and it will cheaper.

I like the Cheviot mules and really want them to work but I’m undecided at the moment

Looks like I've got campy in my ewes😥.not sure where it's come from but it's causing me grief.vet says they should be immune from it now.they said vaccinating for it was a bit pointless. as might not see it again for 4/5 years 🤷
We had it 36 years ago and a third aborted out of the 200 we had. Next saw it 10 years ago when a third aborted out of 1 batch of 200. Rest of flock was fine.
This year we have had 9 abort and diagnosed as Campy.
We will be vaccinating this year as the cost of the vaccine is negligible compared to the risk of a third aborting.

Do you think they will be less prolific than the NOE mule, which could be a good thing (less triplets)?

I take it once it's on the farm it's hard to get rid off? I don't know much about it.

Trouble is you can’t afford to vaccinate for everything but one big problem might bankrupt you.
Just about sums it up.

With abortion the thought of another big storm is terrifying. Don't think we could cope with it now.

When we got Enzo there was a vaccine, Cevavac i seem to recall, that you could do late in pregnancy which we did and avoided a storm.

Toxo revealed itself in a bad scan in the shearlings so again avoided a storm.

Whilst it is another cost, spread over the life of the ewe it is not so bad.

Get in there my boy, make sure you report back here if she ties you up and whips you like a dog 😂
If he can
Must be the same as parking at the empty end of the supermarket carpark then coming back to having a motor jamming you in at either side with the remainder of the carpark still empty ................fkn sheep🤷‍♂️
What sort of supermarket are you going to that has sheep parking cars?

I’m looking at putting a new fixed handling system in, any recommendations for who to buy components from? Looked at IAE/Bateman any others?
Arrowquip, porta yards or whoever they are now do cattle stuff as well I think.

Depends if you want an off the shelf system or if you're knocking something together with a few gates/hurdles. I'd go for the second option myself

For mine I just got the local smiddy to make up sections and gates etc to my measurements. Far better quality than most of what you'll buy from the likes of IAE. Worked out very similar on price but I got better quality and exactly what I wanted
