Still on iodine teat dip.
Took a cow out of the tank on the 13th . Test results today down to 330 down from the 950 the other day. I've sod all milk in the tank ATM which is not helping at all and a fair few that are starting to go stale and will need drying off soon. Hopefully when they go out (soon) and things will improve.
Im going to have to change the drying off protocol here, and milk record more often. From the figures I've had from the last two recordings over 80% of the cows will need ab tubes at drying off.
tube everything at dry off. we had issues like you are mentioning last year. cell count is behaving now and only treated one cow so far this year. treated a few heifers though.

What milk recording do you currently do?

I didn't. I found it a royal pita to do .
As arla wanted us to cut down on tubes. At the time we decided to teat seal everything and only 3 titted cows or a mastitis case in the last lactation would get dry cow tubes.
It's worked ok untill the end of 2022, had a huge spike at the begining of the winter after loosing my best cows to tb, but it settled down after, but this last year it's been more of a problem, and the twice I've recorded since jan has shown I'll have to do something different.

A small herd and you doing most of the milking you could just cmt consistently and know just as much as herd testing.(other than mastitis culturing)

Farm I visited. This here is just for post spray. They were Running 2 for redundancy.

In that application they didn’t think robotics were advanced enough to run at 4.5-5 seconds per cow. Interesting concept nonetheless.

Robots cannot move with the combination of speed and agility of the Mark 1 human eye/hand combo but they are much more consistent and don't look at phones etc.
I do think with potential Labour issues and increasing herd size that this sort of advance may well be the future

Work out who is getting mastitis, when.

If first 60 days, points to dry period infection.

Sounds like you may have benefitted from more recording and tubes at dry off.

Orbenin Extra for any cow with SCC over 150 in the last three recordings pre-dry off, here.

We record monthly, though.

Are you block or AYR?

There lies the problem. Selective dry cow doesn't work without records. We tried it twice, 2nd time caught us

I would seriously consider blanket treatment until things are under control. Have you looked at cluster flush yet? Start monthly recording aswell and dry off any high cell count cows.
It does sound like you’ve a few high cows causing the trouble which could be affecting the rest.
keep plugging away I know it’s shiit but you will get it sorted 👍

For some reason I don’t seem to get problems from the dry period. My main problems (last 2 years) are when I start housing full time around the backend of the year. New housing/cubicles required.

I’ve become very disillusioned with dairy farming. Was going to sell calves and was told by my man that takes them to the mart that he wouldn’t be able to get rid of them, never mind sell them. Angus and friesian’s. No jersey in the mix. All of thought about since is I want out. Will spend the summer now looking after calves and planning some sort of exit strategy, will probably be drawn out. Society wants people to work less but farmers are expected to work more in order to stand still while people in Brussels comes up with more rules to boot, rotten.

Have you spoken to the market directly.
Doesn't matter what it is it can be moved on. If it's an arla calf you just have to wait until 8 weeks.
