We got our first draw of Cotswold hoggs next week, 4 out of the 60. Been on roots all winter then hopper for the last 6 weeks. Christ they are really are shite, plus none of the mothers have lambed yet and where due 25th March. I don’t have much to do with them (management “shepherd” them) but do want to take them on a try and improve a little.
High speed lead injection is the best way.

When my own go I’m going to make it my hobby to get them better. Problem is for 50 years one one has given a dam about them
We had a few pet cotswolds as pets for the kids.
I used to shear the lambs in July with the ewes, that did them no end of good.
They do just go fat though.

Try and sneak a charolais tup in there with a wig on? That would do them some good!!

Cotswold need 2 summers really. Suppose no one has ever tried to improve them, wouldn’t matter if it 5 years to get fat if you had a high value wool every year.
Be like Merinos in Oz. Can live off next to nothing and produce great wool, but will never flesh up. They do taste fantastic at 3/4 yo though, although not a lot of eating on a chop 🙄

just took in a 3 day old lamb. ewes milking fine and ive seen it every day the last three days

no reaction from it if you touch its eyes (as if it was brain damaged) and breathing very heavy (rattling). tongue kind of sticking out.

dont think its watery mouth, any ideas?
Had one yesterday, about 8 hours old, had definitely sucked, but seriously chilled. In tiny holding field with good shelter until taking them inside at 6 pm. Was looking fine at last round, inside and in hot box. Gone this morning.
All 1 and 2 day olds are in to yard and big shed at night. Found a similar one this morning, seemed to have no interest in mother so bottled him. Looking on the mend at 10, then at 2 he's flat and temperature down , in the hot box now.
I am a bit suspicious that they are after one of the cross beltex's and the mothers a similar breeding.

Neighbour has two sheep, one was yeld, one expecting triplets of course. Can anyone guess which one managed to choke itself to death between his tractor wheel and step ??? 🙈😂
