Always put's a smile on my face - calves born October to the end of winter, as soon as the shed gate is open, they head for the leafy green stuff, and even though all they've eaten up to then has been in a bucket/trough,rack, they jusy know they can eat it.

Charolais bull number six and seven since Friday morning. Six had to come in after milking as was backwards.
Duracell is the bull and last year had 26 heifers and 52 bulls.

if the law of averages works, we are due for a drought this year, you just might be pleased to try !!
any spare grass we have, is already spoken for, get paid for the grass, get paid by SFI,
replacement rate for cows, l see an advert for a 200 cow dispersal, with 100 in their 1st lactation, and pushing that as a positive.
is it ? or is it just showing their cows don't last. Not to sure that is profitable carrying that amount of replacements, could be a reason they are for sale. That's going back 30 years, when you needed to put most of your holsteins to hol, because a lot of cows never reached 3rd lactation, and a lot never reached 2nd, and sexed semen was in its infancy, and hol bull calves were worth zilch.
l was surprised when we went through our cows, pre sale, of just how many there were, over 5 lactations, but still tidy, and giving a lot of milk. No point putting them through the ring, we did put a 10th calver in the sale, that looked more like a 4th, it would have been interesting to see what she made, but son pulled her out day before.
Though BSE brought about a scheme where dairy bull calves were worth £100, and killed.
BSE that was another fiasco, nobody wanted our beef abroad, barrens were £300, and burnt. And other countries were finding different names for it, and claiming it wasn't BSE.

Both electric and permanent - possibly even clipex or similar
Thinking along the lines of geared reels, pigtail electric fencing posts, poly wire, steel wire, barbed wire, wooden posts (strainers etc), insulators etc
Other grazing stuff like water troughs, water pipe and fittings might be worth a look
Used farmdeals a few times now and been pleased, much cheaper to go through you guys for fuel and oil as well

lovely isn't it.
SFI, will easily cover the rent we pay, and a decent surplus.
only problem, cannot see it lasting for long. I am told, there are 1000's of acres of marginal arable ground, going into the 'options'. Given a shite time getting corn in, straw will be expensive next winter, and a possible drought ...................
farming is most definitely not boring.
