Have already sold a few there. Generally a supporter of through the mart. 75 % of sales i guess would be done there. Would lose 40 a head through mart plus haulage, so just testing the water. Wouldnt be 150 on one day, well could be if price was right but think that would be overkill and depress...
I agree with @Haydn Lloyd . Blues lims with steers would be similar. Char i would worry about weights maybe? But that depends on your system and the future plans of abattoirs. But the bb on a sim produces a serious breeding heifer/ cow. Generally, though obviously dependant on bull selection...
Would they? How much? Local mart has a once monthly sale of non tested cattle. Trade often seems 20/30 dearer than tested cattle simply as numbers there and afu buyers attend religously. Not saying theyre not worth more but seems so many afu s about know as there has to be to source cattle?
Made a start on maize this afternoon and tonight though now rained off. Will wean tomorrow. Got 150 cows to sell as feeders, handful pure lims, 25 pure blondes, probably 85 homebred blues and blondes from genuine 100 % british friesan. Other 40 odd will be bought blue holstein, or lim sim x...
Buy a dear lamb i admit, last year pre luck 110, this year 116. Invest in reseeds but with wet winters actually fed ewe lambs nothing!!! Bought 40 20k energy lick tubs and used 8 over 616 ewe lambs. Twins i sold at good money at 8 weeks old but normally i feed no extra but wean at 8 weeks. So...
I admit loose figures, but quoting on profit after main costs. Bizarrely after dad using this system for 60 years the figures taking a 3 year mean average dont differ greatly. Profit on shearling sales from ewe lamb purchases last year leave 50 quid, covers losses, sadly, dont use any feed...

Last 5 years paid over 100 for mule tupping lambs, shown average profit of 53.80 on these. Why is this so crazy? Hope im right as waiting to unload another 110
Runners been soooo cheap last 2 years and this years sales of shearlings showed a huge profit for those lambs. Probably only balanced previous years loss!! The guarenteed drop and kicking people will take i seem to remember you saying bang on a year ago, questioning if it was a good idea me...
Think a lot is areas, many marts from kirkby to bentham to longtown see a proper price for flash fat lambs. Down in south not so much, people in banbury with good numbers in spring take their lambs to these marts. Smaller farmer drawing 30/40 a week doesnt look elsewhere than dead or local mart...
Just unloaded second wagon of lambs bought from bentham today. I was up 6 quid which on the year was thrilled with. Some seriously good sheep/runs in there. A booth, an andrew brown, hutchinson, a pye, many many more. Serious power, good skins heads. Good price i admit but when you bought them...
Always love the quotes of "people with big bps" props these trades up. I changed system a few years back and stopped buying chev mules from longtown for myself, so last 4 years been buying 250 to 350 for 2 friends neighbours. Tuesday cancelled friend i buy runners for as impossible, but i bought...
