Having a bit of bother in the draft welsh ewes, they are now in side, on cake (rolled barley protein mix) plus hay. They receive a bit less cake than the commercial ewes but just seem gormless. Am I missing a trick with this breed / draft ewes? Cheers.
I can sympathise with you there, it’s not easy setting out from scratch, I ended up taking grass parks and then the odd acre here and there from someone who has brought a house with a few acres.

Usually sell all my own bred lambs as stores so long as north of £65 a head then buy long keep lambs in but set a limit at £45 a head. Worm / mineral drench and leave them to it. They’ve always done well and generally go away as a lump at around now, back through the store ring so not paying for...

It’s tough, we’ve 100 ewes and 12 sucklers, all on rented ground plus full time jobs. We own 17 ac which we let out and the BPS and rent money pays the mortgage on that, which is the other end of the stick, but it pays that way.
