Twin lamb in Welshies

Having a bit of bother in the draft welsh ewes, they are now in side, on cake (rolled barley protein mix) plus hay. They receive a bit less cake than the commercial ewes but just seem gormless. Am I missing a trick with this breed / draft ewes? Cheers.

+ feed blocks or rolls fed on the floor out of a plastic cake bag.

I wouldn’t think any draft ewe has seen the inside of a shed before. Best management for welsh ewes in to leave them alone.

They won’t do any good on rolls/cobs (especially if inside) if they are brokers- need to be fed nuts.

We always had a proportion of our welsh ewes that had to manage outside on molasses regardless of weather, expected crop etc. The ignorant barstewards would rather starve inside than just eat! The singles got nowt except haylage and the multiples got haylage, molasses & chopped beet. When they wanted too eat they got a max of 1/2 lb of ewe nuts a day too.
