Have a shed that has previously been used as an indoor silage pit, it's attached to a cubicle shed, was looking to use for cattle instead. Maybe a large bedded pen with a calf creep and a calving pen ? It's 71 foot long and 28 foot wide. Drawing attached, any ideas welcome.

35 breeding cows ATM, started 3 years ago and trying to build to maybe 70 breeding cows within the next 3 or 4 years. Suckler herd selling as stores but finishing a few each year and building. No pedigrees but introducing some 3/4 bred Stabilisers and will eventually have pure breds.

I've never used a management tag but as the herd grows wondering how it an help. For those of you that use management tags, what information are you putting on the tag ?

OK, an update, have bought a few in-calf stabiliser cows a few in-calf heifers and a couple of bulling heifers. First calved this week and hopefully a few more this month, all to be calved by end of May. Thinking of using Stabiliser AI on a few to get replacement cows and hoping to get updates...

Not wanting to breed replacements with the cows I have ( want to get rid of holstein and BB influences ). Thinking of buying in-calf stabilisers, keeping any heifer calves, ai heifers and some cows with sex semen sabiliser for replacements, put other cows to the charolais for stores.

Better suited to selling stores for now.

Just a quick update...out of all the tractors seen today the one which appeals most is a 6255 dynashift. Just need to pick up the courage to pull the trigger on it. Any final thoughts ?

Ok, as it happens the local dealer has a few as mentioned, 390, 390T, 4255 and a 3065 with Quicker loader all well within my budget. Of course he has many other brands but probably I will stick to MF. Some good pointers here, will hopefully get to check them out tomorrow ( giving it a wet day...

Local dealer also has a 4255 for £2k more, similar hours, can have a look, but its 24x24 with Powershuttle and I hear these are unreliable, better with 12x12 manual shuttle ?
