Been a while for various reasons but finally getting back to it. Cab now solid after fabricating the majority of the bottom half, prep and paint next for cab.
Before
After
Hi All
Long story short I'm after a defender 90 as a first car/farm truck, however finding it almost impossible to find an insurance company to quote for insurance. Tried several comparison sites and other providers and even a few 'specialist' brokers but all have come up with a reason as to...
Gave the link arms a freshen up
Resealed the top cover and pump
Found the cause of the lack of pressure, safety valve was replaced with normal plug at some point in past so pump was dumping all oil straight to back end
Finally got it back together and working
Hopefully get the cab...
Pins finally out
Not many pictures but got the gearbox apart and fixed, much tighter than it was and it now selects all gears
Got the backend all stripped and it's surprisingly in very good condition just waiting for a few bearings and seals. Hopefully get it back together with the top cover...
And so the problems begin. Spent the last 2 days trying to remove the old loader brackets and rear compressor frame. After a lot of swearing, head scratching and brews I'm down to the last 2 pins. Beginning to run out of options so had to bring out the Stihl. Think I'll have to phone a friend...
Being honest I think it would've been a close call power wise between the two before I started it haha.
Hoping a month at it full time and it'll be nearly there.
Got the engine rebuilt over weekend. Got first coat of paint on block and head. All going well until I cranked it over to start. Got about 4 turns from starter then it decided to call it a day, started smoking and will now only click. Had 3 fully charged batteries on it in the end, checked all...
All the pieces of rings and piston
Surprisingly very minimal wear to bores and crank. Block out washed honed and ready to go back in
Valve train all replaced. Turns out the one that wasn't seating was ever so slightly bent
Diesel pump and injectors due to be returned next week, diesel man...
If I'm picturing it correctly, its similar to a 4610 of mine. Couldn't get the hydraulic pump drive shaft away from the front pulley enough to get the belt behind. Only way of getting the drive shaft off completely was to roll the front bolster/axle forward. An easier/quicker option would be to...
Stripped engine today, 1 broken piston and 4 broken rings, and one valve and seat questionable to say the least. Injectors shot and pump been dumping diesel into sump. Think there's a long road ahead
Doing a full restoration on my Ford 4610. Had a few people ask me to post pictures as I go.
Obviously needs a lot of work to get it to any acceptable standard. Engine only ran on 2 cylinders, gearbox fell out of 2nd and 5th gear. PTO doesn't work and it has no 3pt linkage/pickup hitch. And a...
Not particularly difficult to do, as said above just tricky getting to the bolts. You can get to it without taking the radiator off but may be just as easy removing the rad. 2 bolts under front tombstone for radiator, whip that off then your at the pump. Probably worth checking/changing...
