We grew 50 acres of empress last year For the 1st time in my working life. Bought seed, direct drilled, No weed control was needed apart from Glyphosate pre drilling. 180kg/ha of Nitram In 2 splits and it yielded near about a tons to the acre. Having more this year.
6 metre sabretine weighs 3.2tons. So the website says.
So not that heavy when any modern 200 hp tractor will lift 10 tons. Mounted is better when its wet!
We have subsoiled some rape into severn trent sludge. Its up already, a farmer next to us grows sludged wheat, rape sludge wheat rape and so in. They have been doing that for 10 years. Their rape yielded more than anyones round here. I think rape must love sludge as flea beetle is riffe round here.
I've bought a Penney Porter Winnograder on eBay to clean seed corn. I've looked for instructions on the internet but struggling to find any. I wondered if anyone on here had any?

I use mine after my sumo GLS. Get a great seed bed to drill into. Or I use it after the drill. Helps in our Claydon system. As it's usually to wet to roll after drilling into unturned soil. So we leave it a day. Rake it then roll. Get great seedbeds on heavy land.
We are growing a third winter wheat to be hoed with the inter row hoe. A third will have sludge then put a cover crop in ahead of spring wheat. Then final third split in 2 half linseed spring and winter. The other half rape. If it fails I shall use it as cover and drill into it with spring barley.
Afternoon Juke. How are yields with the disc in front? Do you get enough tilth with the disc? We are on medium to heavy clay loam that will be like concrete this year I'm sure. I guess it won't bring up so many boulders with the disc?
268 acres of DK Exalte drilled with the Claydon Hybrid. It has looked so well all year so disapointed when it did 3.20/ha. Don't think that is too bad for this year. Ive heard of worse.
We have been strip tilling with a claydon hybrid 3 metre for 6 years. Going very well. Looking at the possibility of going to zero till. We are doing variable seed and N. Claydon is brilliant for rape. I like that leading tine going down 6-7 inches. Running a sumo GLS infront if needed. What...
We have had our househam a couple years now. This last year it has been struggling to fold up tight enough to drop the booms down on the stops. I thought it might be the ram seals but I changed them today and it's made no difference, thought I could be air in the system so undid the ram when...
