Autumn Calvers here. Been in for 2/3 weeks now started serving 2 days ago so like to have them settled on a diet before then. Hope to see them out in Jan weather permitting

Autumn calvers here too, tried getting them out in Feb this year but grass ran out very quickly, and no grass then for spring, was a cold wet one mind. do you buffer silage with grazing?

We would be at that time of year. They would only be going out for a leg stretch and to clean themselves up. If they're out it means no wiping which at very least saves me the time and cost of paper

AYR here, cows still out day and night, having big bales ad lib at milking, enough grass for another 2 wks, but depends on weather. if we had tracks to go to each field, they'd be out for the 2 wks no probs, but... guess we'll have some fat sheep come the new year!! . Excellet growth this autumn though!

Still out by day. I doubt it'll be for much longer though - grazing block is at or just below sea level, and I suspect the tide will be coming in shortly.

Would love to put in cow tracks, but I strongly suspect it would contravene SSSI rules and regs.

So how do you know there isn't a sick cow left in the field?
when there isn't enough cows in the parlour!have to say we don't tend to get sick cows. we have very fertile soils here so it is rare to get sick stock. I have only ever seen 2 cases of staggers,we haven't seen ecoli for 4 yrs cows calve inside so milk fever at grass is very rare for us.we do get the odd blown cow but they do tend to stay with the herd. NZ X cows on good soils don't tend to go wrong:):)(y).

having said that I have just touched a rather large piece of wood!

Yes I know good well looked after cows give little trouble. I milked a herd for a few years on a ring fenced farm and half the time I never even shut them in the field at night. But if a cow was missing I would have noticed. If that was here and I had an afternoon off my assistant would never notice if a cow was missing.

Looks like yesterday was our last day for cows out. Autumn calving so cows in at night since 20th of September. Finished fresh grass last Tuesday. Been field by field since. Can't complain this year, been good for grass and utilization, and a dry autumn. No poaching on fields, so should be good for next spring.

Got enough grass for a good week or two here yet, cows out day and night, i chicken'd out of putting more fert out in September, in a good year I have had them come in day and night at the end of november, but have seen it turn wet and the cows were in in the beginning of October that year, Ayr calving averaging 7500l, not bad for being 1100ft up a hill
