USB not recognised

I have a USB memory stick playing up. Each time I try it in various USB ports I get a message 'USB not recognised'. When it is put into the port the indicator light remains on - not the short flash or two with a normal stick.

It was a freebie from nPower no less! Would it be an inferior brand with limited life? The stick contains a whole lot of Mp3 downloads~ not exactly vital information.

They can go bad, I recently had a new 128gb nano SD card die on me.
I returned it to the supplier who replaced it by return.
You could ask nPower for a new one!

I had a similar problem with a micro SD card (I think I posted on here for solutions(y))

Although windows wouldn't recognise the card, I managed to retrieve most of the files from it using a Linux OS (Mepis I think) as it could still see and open the card.
