Hi everybody, first post on the site...
Living in the heart of Scotland I'd like to point out that it's not only Scottish natives that were voting to have independence or not. There's a massive population of incomers around here, mother included, that all had their say, a few of the English I know were all for splitting from the rest of the uk
and what do you think ?

I have arrived late on the scene. I don`t mind as long as it is total independence (No cake and eat it). It will at least get the whingeing woman off our backs.

and what do you think ?
What do I think... Well... I was a yes vote to independence at the time, I thought that breaking away from the rest of the uk may have given us all a kick up the arse, given us a bit of drive! we may even have started to smile again!
Now though... I'd stay as the United Kingdom and out of Europe.

Having said all that, whilst having my weekly fix of tv down the road at the neighbours last week, we were waiting for the main show to start (first dates) Vlad Putin popped up on the screen pictured beside some dour looking bird, I said who's she? his wife?
They replied... No She's leader of our country.
Turns out Dave done a runner when he lost and she got his job I had missed it.

So maybe I should leave the politics and go find a conversation about welding...

Funny how most that are against scotland being independent live the furthest away in southern england.

Some of us currently live even further away, but that does not stop us having the best interests of Scotland and its people in our hearts. Especially those of us who intend to live there again.

Interesting that davieh3350 says he knows white settlers who voted yes the last time. Probably a bit like the English in other foreign countries, and Australia in particular - everything about England is bad according to them. Conversely, Scots who emigrate tend to laud Scotland at every opportunity, even if they have no intentions of ever returning. I accept these things as they stand. I am not prepared to try to fathom out the psychology of both sets.

I had never thought about that but upon reflection, I by and large agree.
Where would you put the welsh then? Me, I think with the scots, and possibly the psychology is down to an upbringing of being a minority within the united whole?

When I was in Canada working in 1999, I got talking to the old guy Tom who drove the diesel into the farm... Oooh he said, you're from Scotland! I'm Scottish he said.
Are you? I said, where abouts did you come from?
Well! He said, I've never actually been there, but my ancestors came from there.
I liked that.

The SNP councillor who lives next door (his tv) is all for leaving Britain, he's from Manchester.

What about... Instead of Scottish independence... A London/south East England independence vote.
It has most of the finance sector has it not, they could govern themselves, we could then set up another parliament around Manchester, (fairly central) and we could govern ourselves, a more agriculture/tourist/industrial based nation.

I don`t understand this democracy thing, It seems that if the first vote does not get the result you want, then keep having another vote until it does, is this not getting to a dictatorship type?
If the people keep electing a parliament, using the d'Hondt PR system, the majority of whom support independence then it's quite likely that independence will remain on the agenda. If the people vote in a majority of unionists it won't.Its about as far from dictatorship as you can get.

Alex Salmond said that the referendum was a once in a lifetime opportunity. They don`t live very long up there:scratchhead:

Nationalists take a bit longer than most to understand political realities, or realise compromise is probably a good idea. Northern Ireland was offered devolution in 1973, it took 25 years and 3500 dead before they took up the offer. The Good Friday Agreement was famously described as 'Sunningdale for slow learners' at the time ie it was pretty much exactly what had been offered all those blood soaked years previously.

I would not put them anywhere. If they want to move to Scotland then it is their choice. Can you imagine the rugby team that would produce in a few years' time!!!!

But then, who do you put in Wales? I have never been there, so really not qualified to comment. Henarar has, maybe he has some suggestions.

I spose if they all move out it could be used for re-wilding but I think @GTB will have something to say about that
to much moving about only causes pollution and confusion, best stay home IMHO :whistle::whistle::whistle::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
To be honest I don't understand this conversation :scratchhead::LOL:

That is exactly where they should begin re-wilding of course. Monbiot lives only a few miles from him. Those that want re-wilding should be prepared to begin at home. I suspect Monbiot does not drink in any of the local pubs. He should.
