I don't understand Farm Marketplace

Sorry, I am more than likely being a bit hard of thinking, but I just don't get it...

From what I can see, it's just another outlet, similar to ebay, amazon, malpas online, tesco online shopping etc etc

I am struggling to see how it is anything else than a stick to beat the local supplier's with. Surely, we as farmers should be supporting local supplier's, as we preach to others to shop locally...?

In the past week, I have purchased the following...

15kg of stubble turnip seed

2 x wire netting rolls

30 x fence posts

Pack of staples

David Brown Diesel lift pump.

How could Farm Marketplace have helped save me money here please?

Genuinely not being argumentative, I just struggle to see how it is any different to any other store...

Do you only shop at the local corner shop at not supermarkets? It's not dissimilar to Amazon, eBay etc.

But if local suppliers cannot stay competitive for the farmer (i.e within 5-10% of the price offered on farm marketplace) then surely the local suppliers are the ones beating the farmer with a stick?

I'll admit to being slightly put off by the website and the way it's set up. Seems clunky and awkward to find things on. Maybe a work in progress.

Can't understand how they will sell sprays etc. Is their no checks, spraying licenses needed in England? How would they be delivered?

Do you think a local business can survive on 10%?

As @Clive had explained several times: if Farm Marketplace is mainly used to beat local suppliers down it'll go under itself quite quickly. It needs us to buy from it for it to work. The goods are being supplied by various businesses, there's nothing to stop your good local small supplier offering their stock on it and gaining a much bigger market. The bigger turnover might even allow them to reduce their prices further!

I'll be using it when I next have something to buy that's on it.
