Mrs Robt needs a new car. Current Volvo XC60 is lovely but just being too expensive to keep on road.... oh and it's done 110k.
So have decided to go for a VW Toureg MY 13/14.
Any points to look at? Any advice .
Are they really that hard on tyres? Anyone have them with air suspension?

Here's a curve ball for you.....

Bin the idea of a big gas guzzling SUV and get a much more economical estate car instead.

Just my thoughts!

I run a xc90. It's our 2nd one and we really like it. Not that fast but very practical. I Would have thought a vw toureg would cost more to run than a xc60? My brother in law had a toureg for 2 years, he swapped it in for a VW Passat estate 240 diesel. It shifts!!

Fuel costs will be more but I'm hoping vw parts will be less than Volvo prices!
Ps, don't like the xc90. New one is uber nice though

We had this dilema couple of months ago. Good friend had just bought a vw
Which has not been very reliable.
Trouble with the fwd , then the flywheel went with under 40000 miles.
We went for a high spec Kia sportage on a 14 plate. Decided that was the vehicle we fancied, found one in Bristol auctions and by that afternoon bought it online. Very pleased with it lots of spec. 7 year warranty and 4wd for £14000. Only downside is it averages 39 to the gallon but keep forgetting its 4wd

Again lovely vehicle and the thinking mans yummy mummy transport but my wife wouldn't drive a KIA.... change the wife I hear you say? Trouble is even the dog likes her and divorce is expensive , more so than running a VW

240hp,DSG gearbox 4 motion. He was getting about the same mpg as the Toureg. My service costs are pretty good. My local Volvo dealer is no more than my local independent garage. And it includes 12 months roadside assistance. So I've cancelled my AA, saving £200ish.

Not long ago I would have agreed with her.
I'm a changed man and would not drive a VW just like I cant see why anyone wants a John Deere when a David Brown will do

I was with you and ageeeing right until the last 4 words!
We work hard, enjoy life, have champagne taste and lemonade money ( that's what credit is for) so we will probably have the VW.... unless I can get an extended 3 year warranty on an early mark 3 RR sport

Tell your wife to go Mercedes-Benz Ml, Audi Q7 or Lexus Rx if she wants real quality. Haven't heard many good things of the Touareg, it's considered much more unreliable than a Q7, which is more or less the same car.

I also enjoy life and drive a Mercedes, next is going to be a Mercedes E or Lexus Ls. Soon-to-be wife says Mercedes, so probably Mercedes. ;)

Ok, you get a lot of ml for 25k, is rhe 350 the one to go for?
350 is the way to go. Find a dealer and take one for a spin. And if possible, get one with orthopedic seats. I have them on my C, so many ways to set up the support for lower back, thighs, side support etc. And the way the inflating air pouches push just the right spots on your sore back.

They are expensive on parts and tyres as bloke who thought he owned the road when he took our wing mirror and his off, because he couldn't afford tyres for it they where smother than my skin, but you can fit a bloke thru the drivers window if it helps, they want banning the size they are

168 k miles on a 2004 2.5 and still going strong ..can't say its been totally trouble free but its always got me home and nothing horrendous to fix
use general grabber at tyres and you'll get 30 k out of them

Do you think she'll like the ML? We looked at them recently and felt styling was a bit dated and we couldn't afford a Gla.

We've moved back to a car. Delighted with it. Much better driving experience in my opinion and better value for money. Bought a a5 sportback with v6 3.0 tdi engine, quattro s line etc. Loads of room for kid's and huge boot. About 9k cheaper than equivalent q7 ml or x5.

We'll see what winter brings before I say any more....
