Breeds of stock that have been imported and failed

Pyramid selling.

To me, Alpacas are in the same basket. Fashion statement lawnmowers, needing specialist care, and with fleece so expensive to work that the garments used to advertise it originate in Peru. Which is where these animals should have stayed. And don't get me strated on susceptibility to zTB.
Tin hat..
I think the problems with Rheas etc mainly is there are no local vets and nowhere for the meat to go? No local abattoir for rhea meat as I know and not sure if they would fit in an domestic oven. Ive seen them for sale on FB but no takers - have no point being here. You only keep alpacas if you are middle class small holder and have time to spin wool for expensive socks (nice though). Still pricey though so assume still in demand.

Big welfare problem down here with alpacas. Some vets won't touch them, and they do need touching. Feet, teeth and shearing.
Sold as a BOGOF in local markets down here. Very sad for the animals.
