A dairy farming renaissance after BREXIT

I presume you mean the EU when you refer to Union.

Because they see the UK as a market for EU milk (the clue is in the term "single market") the EU hasn't supported ex farm prices, made the UK disband the MMB, has not challenged the strength of the processors & supermarkets (really weird that the MMB was a nasty monopoly whereas only having three major buyers, and that in some regions only, is fine.)

The UK as a stand alone trading nation will want see to see as little UK money as possible going abroad to buy food-no matter how cheap.

As an aside, I am constantly surprised by dairy farmers almost total lack of understanding of their market
Can you prove the EU forced the UK to disband the MMB?
Strange the EU did that while they them selves have, in some countries so we are told similar monoploy buyer situations.

That's just nonsense. Ireland has never been more prosperous than now. Agriculture has regressed since the 80's but even still my standard of living is far better than my parents was. Europe has been good and is good for Ireland and all. And this thing about how we'll all be in a European army? History has thought us that independent governments have never had a problem sending their people to war so nothing changes there. That's getting away from a farming thread but just look at the people who want brexit, the likes of Boris and his privileged ilk, and the people who read the Sun. I wouldn't let any of them mind my dog never mind lead me to this new utopia you're dreaming of.

Hmm I'll remind you of this when Ireland's head of state is the same as the other 26 states, your tax rates are the same and you've been forced to join the EU army ( due by 2025 ) and no longer a neutral country. After all no one is allowed to cherry pick, you are in or you are in. How are you going to feel when Jean-Claude Juncker is being introduced to the English players at Landsdown road as Irelands head of state ? Why after fighting for your independence from Britain (rightly so ) are you now surrendering it to Brussels ? The Irish were worse off after independence but would you like to go back to British rule ?
The EU is heading for a Federal Europe. Worked well for the Soviet union didn't it ? Asia is now out growing the EU I don't see an Asian Union. All independent Sovereign states trading with one another. In fact according to the EU's own figures 95% of the worlds economic growth over the next 20 years will be outside the EU
If we stay in then we have to accept the Euro, EU tax rates, full fiscal union, complete loss of sovereignty, an EU army and everything else that goes with it.
As for milk, we have one of the largest deficits for dairy products in the world. Ireland may be about to have tariffs to export to their biggest export market.
There will no doubt be some disruption and an economic downturn for a while but we will be just fine. I think for dairy there is huge potential.

Can you please show us some facts about your claim of us having to accept the euro instead of the pound and where you got this fact from and all the other bits you put in that sentence please as that comes across as though you have read the Brexit propaganda booklets and believe every word in them without questioning any of it.
Also you said about an economic downturn, can you please expand on this and tell us what you see an acceptable amount of downturn to free us of the eu.

But you don't say how they were/are holding it back.

It was warm stinking and rank imo, no doubt some enjoyed it, school milk only leaves traumatic memories for me so maggie was welcome to it as far as im concerned.
Well that's all down to administration. Ours had ice crystals. I bet at the end of the day you appreciated that it was there free of charge.

That said, clearly we are going to leave the EU without a deal. The BREXIT secretary said on the Andrew Marr show it was highly likely and that it was not a problem under WTO rules.

Frankly what I want to see is Mrs May symbolically tearing up a cheque for GB Pound 39 billion at the Tory party conference. That will put Tusk and Juncker properly in their place.

Anybody else really really tired of both sides in the Brexit debate and what it means?Nobody knows anything concrete, yet everybody gets really shouty jumping up and down saying listen to me and my OPINION it’s the only correct one in town.
It’s dull, dispiriting devicive and pointless.
We all have lives outside of this hyperbole how about trying to enjoy them until we know some you know actual facts

You've got to be the stupidest person on this site to ask that question
H'm, well thought out reply there, I assume you can't prove what you say.
There are a few people on here complaining about aggressive posting, you are an aggressive poster.
Maybe you are a bully or just can't handle an opinion that differs from your own, I don't know or care?

But if you'd like to have a trip up north some time, I will take pleasure in teaching you the manners your mother (if you know who she is) should have.

Whilst I quite enjoy the soap opera that is Brexit this thread has proved that even the the dairy section posters will let themselves down :(

Brexit.....leaves us with a lot of unanswered questions. But a couple of points are that the dairy industry will be able to withstand Brexit. And the dairy industry in the republic of Ireland will suffer badly in a no deal situation as they export so much to GB. It would make sense for ROI to leave the EU and form a trade partnership with GB in many fronts but given the political histories of the two countries it would be unlikely to happen.

Dairy industry in Ireland will suffer for sure if it's a hard brexit but I still see a deal being done. What happens if there's no deal and food price inflation starts hitting consumers? Will northern Ireland and Scotland who both voted to remain, still want to be part of the UK? So I can't see Ireland leaving the bigger European and world markets so as to keep the English market.

It's a known fact (not an opinion) that the MMB was broken up due to the EU, only a fool would dispute it, or do you dispute evolution, and think that the earth is flat and the sun revolves around the Earth?

The subject was debated on here not long ago and one poster said the dairy trade in the uk had the ear of Thatcher, and it was her desire to see the MMB dissolved.
Europe was still blamed though, sound familiar?
Lets see your evidence please!
