I've an Epspm XP312 thats been here a few good years... Prints Scans Copies does all I need Wireless and I can email it stuff to print whilst not here. It were not expensive and non OE Ink of off Amazon is peanuts. I'd come unstuck in the past with Cheap printers and pricey Ink. Got an XP345 I think it is elsewhere and that does all thats needed... £40 ish IRC that was

I've found "Brother " printers to be good . Best about them is that they accept spurious cartridges with no nag messages , which in my experience is a PIA with other makes , notably Epson . I have Brother colour laser HL 4150 CDN which is oldish now , but has given , and is still giving, sterling service , if a laser printer is your thing . Cheap to run too , using non original toners .

We've got a Canon MG5750 to replace a previous Canon (MP640) which was very good and lasted 8 years. The build quality is much poorer and it seems prone to paper jams of it's own making on occasions. Print quality is good, cheap ink off Amazon is recognised as genuine and it behaves reasonably well in the office with the PC's etc but it's not the same beast as it's predecessor.

Get a colour laser, they are getting cheaper. Inkjets are a pain as the carts run dry or the best before date constantly runs out and the slightest moisture near a printout renders it useless.

We have a brother wireless colour printer, cheap to run still after three years.

Recommend printerland.co.uk

Any recommendations
All comes down to how many pages your printing! The cost of the printer itself is only one consideration. The majority of the total running cost of any printer or copier is the cost of the consumables, which once you've finished your honeymoon starter cartridges can be exorbitant.

Perversely its often cheaper to chuck (sorry ethically recycle) the whole lot than buy replacement laser cartridges, bonkers as that may sound.

So if you are looking at the cheapest per page cost you must do your own homework to find the cheapest laser (the quality of all the majors, Xerox, Epson, Brother, Lexmark, Canon etc is identical really) together with the largest starter cartridges.

An all in one laser, with decent sized starter cartridges (try to find ones with at least 2000 pages starter cartridges fitted). This should see your consumables costs at less than 5p per page.

Printerland or Printerbase are usually the most competitive

I think "Printerbase " are good , they generally have a few deals on the go , with cash backs . 0800 170 7234. ( I have no connection with them , apart from using them a few times .) Have been very good on delivery too .

I have the Pixma 7750 and it is great. Six ink tanks with reasonable consumption as long as it is used regularly [cleaning nozzles, which is automatic, wastes a lot but keeps it printing nicely] I use XXL tanks but am just about to try a set of Cartidgesave own brand inks.
This model has recently been superseded but I've no idea what the new model is called or looks like. Some of the new models take voice instruction from Amazon Alexa, but I doubt that they are the basement models.

If just for printing and copying documents, I would seriously look at a monotone laser printer for economical use.
This one looks to be good value considering 5000 pages worth of genuine toner and a long warranty are included.

Not the cheapest to buy but possibly cheap to run.

Remember that inkjet may be very cheap to buy but ink is literally worth its weight in gold, especially if only two or three tanks are fitted, and they need to be used regularly to prevent ink nozzle blockage issues. I found Epsom particularly expensive to run some years ago. Kodak was average and Canon cheaper on ink if XXL tanks are used and hopefully, if colour photos come out true, with aftermarket ink cheaper still. I do print the occasional colour photo though, so what's right for me, may not be for others, hence mentioning lasers. There are far cheaper lasers than the one I mentioned also.

Is it in a farm/outdoor office, then perhaps damp or contaminated paper? It could also be if it prints on both sides of the paper, after one side has been through the damp ink could be causing it to gum up?

Also, consider a different type of paper. Quality, weight or finish might affect it. I've always found the basic cheap copier paper to work the best in a laser printer, but maybe an inkjet would prefer something a little more robust?

Seems like paper jams are a common problem with Eco Tank printers if this review is anything to go by...

I’ve got no personal advice to offer on inkjet, I switched over to using laser printers back in 1994 - good old Boise manufactured HP LaserJet 4MP mono unit - lasted forever. Although I did have a dabble with colour ink jets again around the millennium, they always disappointed on some score. Usually per page cost and runny ink.

Give me a decent colour laser any day of the week.
