Neighbour cutting my hedge?

Having a spot of bother where my neighbour insists on cutting my hedge, the hedge in question is next to his drive, excellent vision either way but it seems it’s now his mission to butcher the hedge to a sub 1m height (rest of my hedges are 2m high),its been pointed out he’s no right to go do this but it’s fallen on deaf ears.

What are my options?

Erect a wire behind the hedge to stop cattle jumping over?

Get him to?

Erect a wire in the hedge?

Its now got to the point if I catch him I’m going to do him damage with his hedge cutter.

You need to establish who exactly owns each side of the hedge.

If you own both sides, but bits of the hedge protrude onto your neighbour's drive, he is within his rights to trim it - providing he makes sure that the cuttings are discarded onto your ground.

But I would guess he has no right to reduce the height of the hedge which you own (either all of it or half of it) without your permission or without a court order.

Stick a fence up and forget about it.
Life's to short!(y).

Unfortunately, that's what some people expect you to do.

When the annoyances multiply, as they will do, and he loads you will that final straw.....and then you snap, your guns will be gone, possibly for ever.

Nip it in the bud now with a polite but firm solicitor's letter stating that you will report criminal damage and sue for cost of reinstatement. If he continues, do it!

What cutting season? You can cut any time of the year as long as you don’t disturb nesting birds. That is of course unless you are claiming BPS or are part of certain environmental schemes.
It hasnt been made clear if we are talking about mile of hedge or 50m each side of a gateway.
In either case it would be hard enough to not disturb a nest as its now 2nd of May ( around here anyway ).

Depends on the condition of the hedge - there's plenty around here with no nesting at all due to either being poorly maintained/unsuitable for nesting or the smaller birds being picked off by the corvids etc.

If it really is your hedge, and he isn’t just cutting growth that is intruding onto his land, then get your solicitor to send him a letter. If he continues after that, then take him to court.
