First Working Classic - Super Major?

You mention hedge cutter. Would that be a reciprocating head or flail? I would have thought a 135 the most useful around an orchard. What would the OP's options be for MF 3 cyl with power steering?
Easy enough to put a power steering kit on a 135 if it's needed, but they are fairly light on the steering when there's any weight on the back.

I would agree, they are not bad to steer, only really hard to steer when stopped, a 135 would be able to do the jobs listed, fugal on fuel, and parts are easy to get, and will go up in price better if looked after, it will be twice the price of a major , but if in budget would be a better bet all round, I have a Ferguson FE35 for sale similar sized but older than a 135 that would do the job as a halfway house between major and 135 money

I'd look for a 200 series Massey, and probably try hard for a cab too - the hedge cutting will throw bits of twig around and you want to avoid that hitting you, surely? Recognising that the cab might not work with the trees, how about a 230 or 240 cabless with a roll bar?

this is the hedger

not a big hedger is it, and why would a 35 / 135 not handle it, ???

My only experience of orchard work was in the orange groves in Portugal with a MF 165. It had no power steering. At each end the tight turn was hard going and l was stronger then than now.
I would say p/s would be essential no matter what make you decide on.

In my opinion to buy a Major for "work" would be a bad decision, different if you already have one.
The Massey will be available with power steering if you want it and a half decent cab.
Hold their value like gold in these parts.

But if you have your heart set on a Major, let us know how you get on, always glad to help ...........

Thanks for your reply and I will let you know.

Thanks for your thoughts, yes power steering does seem to be a very good idea for the long term.

Thanks for your message, I have a small hedge cutter - Marolin 290 - with a flail head and cutter bar. It is small and not too heavy. I’m beginning to think the 135 would be a very good fit for all my needs albeit more expensive than a Super Major.
