Even the very plain Holstein dairy ones are making £100 in some of the martsI can’t understand why the unwanted calves can’t be taken an minced at under 40 days old.

Think it’s more the jersey grass rats that are the issueEven the very plain Holstein dairy ones are making £100 in some of the marts
Any ram prices?
I would have said they will be getting bought from now onwardsThere's a Muslim festival (Eid or qurbani?) on the 22nd of July is it worth keeping cull ewes for a bit? When would they want them?
That's what I meant in my post.Think it’s more the jersey grass rats that are the issue

But they are still being reared though, whether they are going as sucklers or as stores. Not all of them, maybe have a look at my post on this thread
xbred dairy bull calves
Our Hereford crosses have been the least valuable calves this year All ours are sold privately with a premium to suck cows herds, as no holstein blood in our herd and we're mostly the same high farm as them so cows are fair hard.thefarmingforum.co.uk
South Molton market are allowing vendors in now, subject to social distancing. So it is possible. I guess it will depend on individual market set up.When they going to let vendors start watching their stock sold? Completely farcical that they won’t let a dozen farmers into a cattle mart when half the country is either rioting or shopping till they drop
You could watch your store cattle sold in Bakewell on Monday but I didn't see anyone do itWhen they going to let vendors start watching their stock sold? Completely farcical that they won’t let a dozen farmers into a cattle mart when half the country is either rioting or shopping till they drop
Maybe but the dairy heard up here have very few jerseysThink it’s more the jersey grass rats that are the issue
Yeah 100,000 of them! But the dairy calves are being reared now, and have been reared for years.
The only extra calves I can see coming on the market will be the runty bull calves.
Yes they will go up I get that, but I would say around here fat dead weight up about 30ppk so £120 on 400kg. What I was meaning is if people have has a extra cash injection into the business it makes it a lot easier to put a few extra bids in.The better types are up £180 in the prime ring so why wouldn’t stores go up?
I think the estimated 100k to 200k bull calves which that refers to will have an effect on the price. Need semen use is nearly sure to increase in my mind. But they are still being reared though, whether they are going as sucklers or as stores.
I was trying to say that I don't know where this increase of dairy bred calves would come from as (correct me if I'm wrong) the dairymen would not be keeping the beef calves off the market in the past.
There maybe an increase in kiwi/Jersey bull calves in the mart with this new rule. This could help the trade on the beef calves/stores.
Another thought is with the new rules the dairy boys are going to use more sexed semen which could put a shortage in the calf sector?
Don't think many people knew about it this week to be fair. First I knew was reading it on the market report. You could watch your store cattle sold in Bakewell on Monday but I didn't see anyone do it

Yeah 100,000 of them!
This is my opinion, but I think they will have more of an effect on the barren cow price than the utm price. What is worrying me slightly is the predicted unemployment rate is going to be,but that will have an effect on the whole agri sector.I think the estimated 100k to 200k bull calves which that refers to will have an effect on the price. Yes you go in the doors near the sheep boot wash and up the stairs it's all taped off.Don't think many people knew about it this week to be fair. First I knew was reading it on the market report.
They've set up viewing areas in the store and fat ring, guessing around the stores it will be the bit across the top of the rostrum maybe? And in the sheep you can be there as long as you aren't stood in the alleyway that they are selling on.
So Aldi only sold scotch beef last year?No - it's a survey done by QMS, so looking specifically for the Scotch logo. It could be that the beef is from up here but non-FA or from south of Hadrian's wall, or indeed Scottish FA but that the assurance got messed by being killed or cut in southern factories (does/ can that happen?).
